You and all others (white AND black) in this forum can do is startling in its simplicity---IGNORE that gentleman
I like coming to the Atlanta forum when possible, because frankly, it's one of the few on here where I feel comfortable dealing with issues of race...and I've seen many potentially informative threads derailed and locked because of lurching into stereotypes
So I have learned to basically ignore folks like that gentleman...there are people on this forum (once again, across color lines), people in Atlanta and its environs, and quite a few people elsewhere, who sleep peacefully at night knowing that just because that gentleman says things with what he qualifies as conviction, it means absolutely nothing to them...
He can spout stereotypes and get overheated like a plugged volcano all he wants, or start salivating like Pavlov's Dog at the mere mention of the words 'black' or 'African-American', but the best remedy for this is to press forward discussing the topic at hand, and ignore the sidetalk...I for one, as a black man, know who I am and how I and mine live daily, so his words have about as much effect on me as say, water off a duck's back
You can ignore me all you want.....but, I would suggest you not ignore the real life stories and news stories that I bring to this forum.....news stories are not "stereotypes"......if you ignore reality then you too might find yourself on some "diverse" public transportation having your child screaming "Mommy, I don't want you to die"....true story, not a sterotype. I also find it quite telling that not a single person posting on this thread has made one empathetic comment regarding the two women who were brutalized on Portland's public transportation within a week...one a 14 year old girl and the other a young mother...not one empathetic comment.....pathetic....but lots of hate toward me....the messenger.....

I don't hate you...we've never met, except maybe to 'spar' here on City Data, so how can I hate you?
And also, how can you just 'blanket' assume that no one here has any empathy for the victims you posted about? Just because no one has posted as such here, it's kind of silly to assume that no one feels for these folks?
No, people's issue with you, more often than not, is your predilection toward posting somewhat snarky comments anytime an issue drifts toward, or is directly about, race...you paint blacks as one monolithic entity, controlled by some alleged 'invisible community brain', as if we spring forth fully grown from our parents' loins, spouting anti-white gibberish and acting stupid and thuggish, and being a general stain on society...that's BS, and I'm sorry if you can't accept any of the positive things black folk do on a daily basis, but it is what it is
And by the way...we also DON'T sit in some invisible bleachers, cheering wildly when some thug or robber does something to land on the Nightly News, as if they're sticking it to the (white) man...do you relaize how absolutely ludicrous that concept is, or the number of black folk that roundly and openly CONDEMN that junk? Use your head, man

I think we both are learning something. Though our experiences are legitimate and true, in the grand scheme of things(at least according to those persons who talk about "racially aware"), people like you and I get silenced, not through censure, but through being drowned out. There are those persons who are going to paint all Black people with the broad proverbial brush as one monolith.
One thing I'm learning is that the bad gets more attention than good. People like Bill Cosby and Michael Nutter(Philadelphia's mayor) are condemning such behavior that lands on the Nightly News. I condemn it too. Unfortunately, it isn't people like us who get the attention.
I'm learning that people who use statistics to paint people like us with a broad stroke, people who use events to paint people like you and I as "thugs" often do so for self-serving purposes. Part of why you and I, who are examples of the opposite, get ignored.
I don't think Blacks are moving out of the city to get away from White people. I think it's for the same reason it is happening in other major cities. The cost of living in Atlanta is getting more expensive. That could be a factor. The way I see it, if I really wanted to get far away from White people, I could move to some towns in the Mississippi Delta. The fact that I don't move there, or ever plan on moving there, should say something.

The events I'm going to show you have nothing to do with mass transit. It was plain evil.
The woman who got murdered is acutally an old friend of mine. We went to church together before she moved away. She later returned with 2 kids. She got murdered by her ex-boyfriend because she told her ex-boyfriend it was over. A White woman got murdered by her White ex-boyfriend.
A Hispanic girl got murdered by a White male because he molested her and he didn't want her "to tell".
These were two individuals murdered in the northern suburbs of Atlanta.
If crime is going to happen, it's going to happen. It doesn't matter when or where.
I have a question for you: How come you aren't making a fuss about the Black people who get murdered every year? Fact is, most murder victims who get murdered by Black people are themselves Black, and Black men are more likely to be killed than anyone else in the USA. How come you aren't concerned about that? I am concerned about anyone who is a crime victim.
guys, either northwinds is a troll or he is a racist. either way, you're not going to change his mind, it doesn't matter if you posted statistics that said that the number of black people killed every year by whites is higher than the number of whites killed by blacks. he's just going to keep believing the same stuff, the only thing you can do is ignore him.

Probably a good idea, especially if you are black. Some dude using personal experience and some news articles to tell me how evil and despicable I am just because I have dark skin without knowing anything about me is silly.

It might be true. Unfortunately, some people would actually believe that stuff that is said about Black people. A comment was made about no empathy being shown to the assault victim in Portland. Well, I do empathize with the victim. I have been beaten up and assaulted a few times in my life. With that in mind, the way that news was posted, it was mainly out of hatred for Blacks. It was posted as a way of saying "see, Black people are evil". That is what I get out of it.

Why are there no black teens in this terrible recent act against an Asian kid.
The North is just different. You've got so much racism in a lot of those places. Here in the South folks just learned to get along.
