I think Actworth is a nice area. Canton/Roswell is way out there and might not work so well. From what heard the Atlanta area schools a pretty good.

I am moving to Atlanta in the next month and need to start looking at apartments. My fiance and I want to live in the city and avoid the traffic. We have no kids, so our main thing is just to find a decent area. Any suggestions?

I am also thinking of moving to the atlanta area. I am a recently separated mother of two children, ages 10 and 13. I will be moving from Virginia Beach. But I have previously stayed in Florida and Southeast Ga. I plan on moving there because the job market seems better there. I have been in Virginia Beach for 6 months and I haven't even landed an interview yet. I have visited Marietta, Jonesboro and Forest Park. Those areas seem nice. I am looking for a place to stay that is not too far from ATL, good school system and I don't want to be in the boonies. Had enough of that in Southeast GA. Can anyone give me any help? I mainly do clerical and accounting work.

Our most concern is with schooling. I have three daughters. 7 1/2, 4 and 10mos old. My oldest is entering into 2nd grade, she is currently in an amazing elementary school. We are looking for an awesome school system. We would also like a school system where there is parental involvement.

I am wondering are there any elementary schools that are very close to housing? It seems the schools are way far away from housing. Our school is within walking distance and we really love that.

Also, does anyone have and info on school nurse involvement. My oldest has Asthma and severe food allergies. Our nurse here is wonderful. I am very concerned about how the nurse interacts with the schools in georgia.

Thanks for any information you can give

Hi we are in East Cobb (30062) and I can comment on a few things. We can easily walk to school from our home. Some schools in East Cobb are situated well with paths and such to schools. WE have had a very postive experience with the school nurse in our school. My child has a freaky migraine issue from visions of flashing light to temporary patial paralysis.....totally not the norm and very random, many pediatricians have never seen anything like it. The school nurse is on top of it to a level I never would have imagined. I have a neighbor who has a child with diabetes and has had the same experience. I personally know two other elementary school nurses....just coincidentally.... all here in East Cobb, both excellent.

You only have to do a quick search of East Cobbs schools to know that they are considered to be academically the best in the area. We came from the Northeast and can't be more pleased with the education our kids get here.

Ghanley,
How Ironic! My family moved up to Rochester from Jacksonville, FL some time ago. We moved up here for a job with the worlds largest imaging company (name withheld), otherwise known as the company from hell! Unfortunately, we found that though Rochester has excellent schools and is beautiful during the spring and summer, our blood is too thin and we miss the warmth of the south. I would like to add that the perception southerners have of northerners is all wrong. Northerners are very well mannered and very friendly... the people are very nice here in western New York, and very well educated. With this said, unfortunately there does not seem to be any employment up here. My wife is a masters level professional and works as a corporate auditor, and has worked for treasury as well, so we thought Atlanta (due to the SEC and due to it's financial industry) might be a perfect choice. I work from home as a business analyst. Things that are very important to us are (sorry for sounding like a snob), upscale shopping, new housing areas, MEDICAL CARE with limited state restrictions (as my wife has a chronic illness, which is not always recognized by many states as a disability), and EXCELLENT education for our 5 year old. I have heard good things about Marietta. I know traffic stinks in Atlanta, as I have been through there a number of times and hated the bumper to bumper (but it beats the drive I used to make in Los Angeles!) Any advice? By the way, we are in Fairport... right now, they are starting to fill the Erie Canal back up, the flowers are blooming and people are back in the parks and at Corn Hill for the jazz festivals up here in Rochester! Welcome back when you get here! :-)

I would be very careful about moving here if you don't already have a job. Jobs are few and far between and this seems to be one of those markets where your network is more important than anything else. I've been one of the lucky ones, but I know a lot of well educated people who moved here withouta job lined up first and seriously regret it.

I'm a Title Producer that work with commitments and my husband has a black seal/boiler license and is a custodian for a school. I did do reseach and want some info. on the following cities: Canton, Dallas, Marietta, Arcworth & Lawrenceville. Are any of them good choices. Thank you for your help.
Lawrenceville is reasonable, near 3 huge shopping malls, has the new Gwinnett Braves stadium and good schools. I have a house for sale. What is your budget? I can send pics if in your budget

Hi everyone!!
We are planning to move to Marietta (30066 or 30062) this summer with 3 young children (10,8,7). Our youngest is a child with special needs and our bigest concern.
