Tucker, Ga
Can anyone provide me with any information on Tucker, Ga. I currently live in Alpharetta & work in Roswell. My fiance lives and works in Morrow. We are looking to buy a house somewhere in between. Our main concerns are to be in a good school district and find a home where the commute & traffic is not a nightmare! I would like to stay in Alpharetta, but its a little pricy & you dont always get much home for the money......plus my fiance has two pit bulls, so he needs plenty yard space. Thanks for your thoughts!

I used to work in Tucker. I think that most people would agree that Tucker is a little known secret. I worked with the Dekalb Police Dept. The area was quite police friendly. There is a pretty strong amount of civic pride, even though it isn't a city. For Dekalb county, the housing is pretty affordable. Shopping is good, even though I hate to shop. A good selection of restaurants. It is in a very convenient location. Tucker High is one of the better schools in the county.(from what I've been told). Most of the neighborhoods are established with a different feel than most of the sprawl that surrounds it. All in all, I think Tucker would be your best choice in the whole area you are looking at.

Flowery Branch to Tucker is probably a little easier than Alpharetta. You only have to deal with one screwed up interstate. (85) From Alpharetta you have 400 which is terrible beyond imagination and the northern section of 285 which is slightly, only slightly, better than 400. Don't get me wrong, Alpharetta is a nice place, but due to the ludicrous traffic there, I wouldn't live there at all.

I lived in Tucker for 37 years and let me tell you first hand,I am glad to be away from there. With the surrounding areas of Stone Mtn. and Clarkston, there is alot of high rate crime in those areas. As for schools most of them are predominantly African-American.I wish I could elaborate on the schools better, but I have no knowledge of the system in Dekalb county. My mother and sister both went to Tucker High school but that was ages ago.I attended Shamrock High in Decatur. If your looking for a better school system,I would suggest looking else where.

Tucker Rocks
I lived in atlanta for 4 years in the midtown area and scouted out towns that i thought would be ideal for raising a family. I never knew why no one took tucker seriously. to me, it's in a great location (right off 285, so you can access any part of the city in a jiffy), and there's tons of suburban shopping. from what i remember, there were about 3 shopping plazas with a publix, kroger, a target, a best buy, and a bunch of different restaurants, all at that intersection of lavista and briarcliff (northlake shopping mall area).
and to the person who said that most of the schools in tucker are black.. newsflash: ATLANTA is black! for convenience and getting bang for your buck, i dont see why you wouldnt want to move to tucker

depending on the area, Tucker is not a bad place. Sorrounding areas such as Chamblee can offer some good housing. As far as schools, it's a toss up. As far as the commute, yes 285 is horrible as is 400. Hoever i will generally take Peachtree industrial (141) all the way up and save a huge amount of time. Tucker is not a bad place, especially if you can afford the better properties.

Wait a minute...
Tucker is a great place! My grandparents were born there and I am still there. What crime? Where?
Anyhow, if you are looking for apartment living, there are some new ones at Northlake Parkway and I-285 so you could get on 285 to Roswell and he could go the other direction to Morrow. Or there are also some new apartments at Clairmont and I-85 which you could get on 400 and he could just go south on 85. i would suggest apartment living until you find the great neighborhood. Decatur is a fantastic place to live with great schools, neighborhoods and restaurants but not convenient for your job sites.
BTW, glad the racist left Tucker!

Are you CRAZY!!! Stay in Alpharetta. Dekalb County too high on crime. Tucker Precinct one of the worst.
