There actually is a Pittsburgh community there; it's located roughly at the juncture of Pleasantdale and Chamblee-Tucker Rds.

Midtown is still very gay, go to piedmont park today and see for yourself. Ansley Mall is basically all gay.

Maybe Atlanta seems "less gay" because being gay is no longer particularly noteworthy. Gay folks live and work in every part of Atlanta these days and nobody cares. (As it should be).

Also, based on the limited sample I know, most of them are a little older and not particularly into the club scene anymore.

Checking out post #51 and the map, I see some surprising trends. I haven't lived in the area for a while, and my questions will bear that out.

1) did not know the area around Avondale Estates had such a high gay-couple concentration
2) did not know the area touching the Perimeter (ITP) and south of Sandy Springs had ANY gay-couple concentration
3) did not know ANY gay people even lived in Tucker, let alone that concentration in "Pittsburgh"...never even heard of the place. When did the trend to go to Tucker and OTP begin?

General question: What made ATL a gay mecca to begin with? People would assume NY, SF, and maybe even LA. But, most Westerners are surprised to find this dynamic upon moving to the metro ATL area. So what was the draw? I lived near Perimeter Mall, but worked in one of the high-rises on the MARTA line, and could use Arts Center or North Avenue exits, so Midtown was obviously "the Castro" of Atlanta.
