I grew up in Riverdale. Don't do it, it's a trap!
I won't even drive through Riverdale for fear of my own safety (and I live in New Orleans so that should tell you something) much less live in that hell hole. |

Didn't Clayton County schools just lose their accreditation?

Riverdale is the ghetto.

This is interesting -- I was just watching House Hunters where a woman was selling her home in Riverdale (looked like a townhome or duplex or something like that) to move into Atlanta. Supposedly she wanted to move because her place was "too big" in Riverdale (4BR, 2BA, 1500 sq ft I think) and because she wanted to be more "in the city." She ended up buying a condo on Peachtree.
So the *real* reason she wanted to move was probably because Riverdale is a pit? She was taking a loss on her home, too. She had said that when she bought the larger place it was because family and friends said they would come to visit, but they never did... |

I disagree with your statements about Riverdale. This city is comprised of hard-working people who want a nice place to live and raise their families. News reports have people believe it's a crime-ridden city where you're afraid to let your kids go outside. I have lived in Riverdale for the past 2 1/2 years. I am married and I have two young sons. Our neighborhood is pretty quiet. Residents on my street consist of African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and Caucasians. Yes, white people do still live in Riverdale! The Riverdale Police Dept. has done a lot to make us all feel safer and they are kicking out the riff-raff that give our city a bad name. Efforts are being made to change the appearance of the city as well, and the school system is being revamped. My commute to downtown is fairly easy, considering Atlanta traffic. The commute to Fayetteville is much worse. It takes an extra 20 mins or so, depending on where you live in Fayetteville. I don't live in fear of my home getting broken into, or my children getting hurt, etc. You can get robbed anywhere in the Atlanta metro area! With that said, I would encourage anyone looking to move to an area with affordable housing and a reasonable commute to Atlanta to consider Riverdale. Riverdale is not a bad place to live! |

The truth is in most of the metro area you can find the pockets of bad areas, its usually pretty easy if you ever watch the news. But there are ALWAYS going to be these areas and unfortunately they overshadow the nice areas where people work hard and do well for themselves. My advice as always is to engage individuals that are familiar with the area and can give valuable insights based on what is important to you as a buyer.

I'm not sure about Riverdale is on the move. Clayton county did lose their accreditation b/c the schools are bad its because of the administration. You may want to look in the Ellenwood area, it is still in Clayton and much, much nicer than Riverdale. There are nice places in Riverdale, but just like other major areas there are bad places everywhere. |
