I am thirty years old married with a brand new baby and we are moving to Canton ga. We want a neighborhood that is very social with lots of events and friendly neighbors! We like cookouts/block parties and a close nit feel. We want to raise our children in good schools in a great neighborhood. we were looking in bridgemill and river green. Any input would be GREAT!!!!! we came from a neighborhood in Richmond Va where everyone was Much older, like grandparents and parents of children in highschool so we want neighbors our age or close to if possible.

Bridgemill and River Green are both good options. You can also look at Harmony on the Lakes in Holly Springs (we live there)- there's always something going on at the clubhouse, and the neighborhood is full of transplants, so you should have no problem meeting friends/neighbors. I know that our block tends to have at least one big block party a year, and generally have cookouts/parties at all of the big holidays.

The kids are zoned for the new Indian Knoll Elementary school that just opened this year, and both they and we love it. The middle school and high school are Dean Rusk and Sequoyah, both of which get very high marks.

We moved to BridgeMill about a year ago and love the community. There is always something going on, whether you like golf, tennis, kids events, nice social events at clubhouse, etc. Our 2 boys are at Freedom Middle School. It's the first time they've been in a public school, and we are very pleased. We have friends at River Green, but don't know much about that community. I think the HOA fees are lower at BridgeMill.

My suggestion is Woodmont.
There are two areas, one in the 350,000 and up range and the other at 200,000 to 300,000.

You are close to EVERYTHING: 10 mins to Hickory Flat (Publix / Kroger / other minor shopping) - 20 mins to Alpharetta (Everything you could think of) - 10 mins to the new Canton Marketplace (Target / Best Buy / kohls / lots more).

It's a huge golf course community with two large pools and a waterside my kids love, 10+ tennis courts, and great social events. There are soccer fields, parks with play sets, and open field parks for sports. Great clubhouse. Everyone is really friendly, many outdoor grills and fireplaces for social gatherings.

The middle and high schools are THE BEST in Cherokee country. Creekview High is one of the highest rated schools in the country. Both are only 5 years old and very nice looking. The elementary school, Macedonia is a good solid school not the best in the county, but it is top 3. The school itself is over 50 years old, but there are many new buildings that make it feel fairly new. Teachers are great and they are always getting great ratings.

Stay away from downtown and Riverstone... It is old, gross, and full of racist rednecks. The ONLY thing I go there for is the post office, everything else is at Canton Marketplace and Alpharetta.

Harmony on the Lakes is in the Sequoyah high school district, the elementary and middle schools are good, but the high school is not very good. Drugs are a fairly big problem there. The community itself though is great.

Bridgemill is a great community, but it is not a great location. Same school district as HOTL. Impossible to get to Alpharetta, which at first was not that important in my life, but now I go there on a weekly basis. CantonMarketplace is not very close. Woodstock and Towne Lake are closer and very nice but even they are a good ways away.

Woodmont is my favorite place in the county and I absolutely love it!!!

Wasn't Bridgemill "called out" not too long ago as being "very social"?
Some call it "Swinger Central"(?)

Of course, when your talkin a master planned community of over 2000 homes- there's really no telling what "could" be going on.

Oh no. Not another rumor. Laurel springs is supposedly nicknamed laurel swings too. I supposedly lived in a swinger neighborhood in buffalo but I never saw anything like that and we were very social there. Cheating with neighbors? Yes but swinging? No

There are tons of subdivisions in the Canton area. Don't get locked into the cookie-cutter McMansions of BridgeMill or Woodmont until you see what else is out there. I recommend finding a local RE agent who is familiar with the area and can help you find exactly what you're looking for. Be sure to check out the Hickory Flat part of Canton, and the beautiful horse farms in Ball Ground.
