What is your review of Cafe Bombay? I have never been there.

On Buford Hwy visit Chateau Saigon (Vietnamese of course) and Penang (Malay/Thai). I have been to these several times, and they always turn out a good choice.

I think atleast 40% of the Asian diversity in Gwinnett county is Korean. That section of diversity would be irrelevant to you if you are not very interested in Korean culture.

ATLJTL, did you ever make it to the Shlok nightclub (the Indian one) you were referring to in another thread? Any reviews?

That's not to say I felt discriminated against at all. In fact, I felt like a novelty as people from all backgrounds welcomed me. To be fair, I was probably pegged as fresh meat at Blake's and Burkhart's.

Maybe it was because I stayed mostly in Midtown, but I didn't sense an international vibe. Coming from a large Navy town, it's not uncommon to come across a Filipino, an Indian and a Brazilian (sounds like the beginnings of a bad joke) at Publix or anywhere in public.

Thoughts?
The Koreans have a strong presence down in Atlanta,...more so the Doraville area. Are you a navy brat? I meet a few Army brat girls in Atlanta, but none Navy. The Asian America community in Atlanta doesnt really blend well with most of the Atlanta culture. Although I wish some of them would have come out more to kinda mix things up. I think you can live any where in the core & be just fine in Atlanta. Decatur, Inman Park & East Atlanta are cool spots you might like.

Ok here are a few places that we really love to go to. Of course there are A LOT of great restaurants in the Atlanta Metro. Sorry, I don't even think I know of a filipino restaurant though. If you do find a good one, please let us know!

I Love Pho (Vietnamese)
Han Il Kwan (Korean BBQ)
Cho Dong (Korean Tofu House)
La Botana (Tex-Mex)
Rose of India (doesn't look great from the outside, but don't let that fool you)
Top Spice (Thai / Malay)
Panahar (Bangladeshi)
Little Szechuan (Chinese)
La Fonda Latina (Great Paella!)
Las Palmeras (Cuban)
Oriental Pearl (Dim Sum - Get there early!!!)

Filipino Restaurant:

Fil-Am Star Cafe
5150 Buford Highway
Suite A-170
Doraville GA 30340

This is where me and my family go when we want food from 'home'. It doesn't compare to a home cooked filipino meal, but they do serve things that we don't cook at home (like sisig, etc).

There are reports that there is another filipino restaurant located in Assi Supermarket Food Court, but I have heard that they are not as good.

Filipino Grocery:

Manila Mart
5938 Buford Highway
Suite 212
Doraville, GA 30340

I don't go to this place often since Buford Farmers Market (just down the road from here) has a Filipino aisle.

My family live ITP and have experienced no discrimination. There is a growing number of filipinos here but most of them are located in gwinnett county and north fulton / forsyth county.

Thanks Vince! We'll have to check it out. My wife is Korean and we were wondering about Filipino as we haven't seen too many restaurants around.

My review of Cafe Bombay leaves me wanting more. I understand the limitations of a lunch buffet and, based on others' reviews, dinner seems to be more of a winner. Still, I haven't experienced as much of a disparity between lunch buffets and dinner service.

Indeed, it is!

I live in Glitterside (aka Riverside), just a few blocks from the St. Johns.

I am a Navy brat and was surprised when walking around Midtown and wearing my standard issue sweatshirt, people would stop and say, "Thank you for your service."

Everyone's input has been helpful. Aside from some chatter on here that is purported to be only chatter, my last visit proved Atlanta is worth considering for my career and personal life.

In case anyone thinks I must live in a Midtown bubble teeming with Asians and gay guys in bedazzled, banana hammocks with glitter, that is not true at all.

There's no need to bedazzle the banana hammocks.
