Default Thieves rig gate system; break in nearly a dozen cars in Inman Park

I know its easy to feel secure when you live in a “gated” community, but people still have to remember not to leave electronics and other valuables in their cars.

You should never leave valuables in your car no matter how secure you think the parking lot is.

Even the fanciest gate system can easily be penetrated by someone on foot. If someone is after iphones, ipods, etc. they can easily get in on foot and swipe a bunch of them and escape on foot.

Thank God I drive a 98 car with 200,000 miles on it and put nothing of value in there. Seriously I know people are desperate but this seems extreme. Maybe someday the political leaders in this state will figure out how to create jobs again. Until then, I guess it's everyone for themselves.

Sorry, but most of the thugs breaking into cars aren't doing it because they lost their jobs- they wouldn't work if we were at 1% unemployment, because it's easier to take from others than it is to work.

What is the purpose of this thread? Anybody which common sense knows that this happens everywhere.

I didn't know anyone personally who had experienced a car break-in until I moved down here. Your generalization is incorrect. Maybe it happens everywhere in this metro, but not in all metros.

Please name a major metro area where there hasn't been any car break ins.

I didn't start this thread to debate whether car break-ins happen or not. I just posted the article as a reminder to those living in the Inman Park area to take extra precautions in regards to car safety.

I too live in a gated community with security cameras, etc., and know first hand how easy it is to get lax about car safety and your personal surroundings.

Why do people enjoy making such exaggerations?

I spent 40 years in another metro area which is only slightly smaller than this one (maybe 3.5 million), and in all of that time I can't remember knowing anyone who had a car of theirs broken into.

Why is that so hard to believe? And why amplify my statement into something it obviously wasn't? I didn't know anyone who was robbed, either. That just doesn't happen that often in middle class suburbs in many areas of the country.

Because this mentality dominates around here.

Though, I came from a smaller metro and grew up in a middle class area where and heard of people getting robed including our home when I was in elementary school. Doesn't Macon have more crime then Atlanta?
