When Toomer E.S. kids start going to Coan it will greatly improve.
It is clear that these Mary-Lin parents are abject "racists".....there can be no further discussion on the issue....."ghetto or trashy" has another name....

However the only plans that ever came out of Kirkwood DEMANDED that ML get rezoned.
ML demanded that Kirkwood and East Lake be removed from the Grady cluster to reduce overcrowding. Will guess what it happened. Everyone has an opinion on what to do with other neighborhoods, its just the affluent neighborhoods got exactly what they wanted while the middle and working class neighborhoods have to suffer.

Bringing in the big guns. Emory has done so much for that school and its finally starting to pay off. The funding will not follow the students to King.

That's probably a longer letter than anyone at APS is willing to read.

The Zeist Foundation is definitely a power player and has spent a ton of money on that area, as have other local philanthropies.

A well-articulated post/comment (from the blog topic above) written by LakeClaireMom:

"You know, maybe I’m the only one, but I would be fine if all of the current Mary Lin district was moved to Coan for middle school. There are only 300 kids there now so once all of Mary Lin moved there, the demographics would actually be pretty close to what we have at Inman.
I haven’t spoken up about this before, but it really sickens me to hear what some of my neighbors are saying about the Coan kids/neighborhood and their willingness to throw Kirkwood under the bus for their own benefit. Coan is much closer to us than Inman. Any 'cheating teachers' are in the process of being fired. With Mary Lin leaving Inman, many Inman teachers could be transferred to Coan.
I have many friends in Kirkwood, and they are top notch people. This is a strong community and is getting stronger every year. It reminds me of Candler Park and Lake Claire in the 1980s and 1990s.
As for the Mary Lin folks that claim to have worked so hard to improve Lin and Inman…. You guys are not the ones who put in the sweat to improve these schools.. it was parents from 10-20 years ago that had the courage to go in and try to improve their community schools. You are just the beneficiaries of their hard work…. You are perfectly willing to trample on the similar hard work of the Kirkwood families so that you can maintain some sort of perceived advantage.
APS and Mary Lin, if you do the right thing here… you will sleep better at night. Sleep is important and a short won 'victory' this year based on shallow values will haunt you later. Or… at least I think it will……. maybe my neighbors do not have the conscience I think they do."
