I need to get my license. I've been putting it off forever. I was very close back home in MD, but coming to GA put the fear in me. Streets aren't well paved, many two-lane roads, faded lane lines, curves, hills, etc. - and how could I forget? Congestion. Too many people - everywhere!

At home, I used to drive around office parks on weekends, and could find many empty roads, and parking lots. Can't seem to find that here. So once I get my feel for the car again, where can I go to practice in peace?

I'm not ready for the main roads yet.....

If it helps I'm in the South Fulton area (closer to Douglas Co.), but am willing to go elsewhere to practice. Also, as two women (I have a willing participant to accompany me) safety is a concern.

Thanks

Visit some of the office parks near the airport. Light traffic. You will have to deal with trucks but that's it.

Forest Parkway west of 75 would give you some good practice. Very few lights and you can drive that all the way back over to your neighborhood.

Best time to get practice is early in the morning. Get up on Saturday and Sunday morning and drive from 630 until 8ish. You can practice of driving in the dark as well.

Any high school parking lot will work. Once you get comfortable doing that, drive home.

Elementary lots may be more likely to be empty because of high school activities.

Office parks on a Sunday morning generally work well too.

When I was teaching my daughter we started out in church parking lots. Most are empty weekday evenings except Wednesday, and some are empty on Saturday too.

There are a bunch of office parks, warehouses and other open lots off of Fulton Industrial also...although, you might want to be a little extra cautious given you and your friend are both women

You can't learn how to swim in a bathtub anymore than you can learn how to drive in an empty parking lot. Get out on the public roads and start driving.

Here's the key to driving. Just stay in your lane. When changing a lane or turning make sure you signal and always check your mirrors... As for practice on turning use the parking lanes in office parks. Just drive up to one, turn into it and procede to drive through about three of them and then do it again.. As for parking use a couple of garbage cans or the office complex parking spaces.. especially for practice of backing in.... Good luck and try to stay calm when you take the driving test..
