We are considering to move from NY to GA, probabley Atlanta. Just want to know some information here.

What about job opportunities in Atlanta? We are both software/programmers. We really want to know the job opportunities for software/programming positions. This is the quite important factor to determine where we move to.

The reason we want to move to Atlanta is:
We don't like the long, cold winter in NY. Hopefully, GA will be better.
And also hope the housing in Atlanta is cheap.

But above all, we really want to know the job opportunities in Atlanta. NY has a lot of positions. Hopefully, Atlanta/GA is still comparable. Thanks.

General unemployment in the Atlanta metro has been higher than the national average for something like 40 months, and even though it has dropped a little bit recently it's still sitting around 9.4%.

Programming opportunities exist in Atlanta, but finding them can be more an art than a science. "Programming" covers far too much ground for me to be able to comment in other than extreme generalities, since many companies are still looking for precise technical and line of business matches and don't seem terribly fond of generalists (something I've personally never understood).
