Default Midway Woods?

Hi everyone,

We've been considering the move to Atlanta from New Orleans for various reasons. We've been looking at an area called Midway Woods because the prices (rentals) seem good and it's not far from Decatur and the center of Atlanta. Does anyone know much about the area, the good and bad? What should we know about this area before we check it out, if it's worth checking out? Thanks!

Midway Woods is a pretty nice area and has come a long way in the past 10 years. It still has a ways to go and is a bit spotty in some areas, but from what I understand it is a safe, enjoyable area. Schools are not great, but you didn't mention kids so that may not be a problem. Generally, the further north in Midway Woods you live.. .the better.

You might also take a look at Forrest Hills which is right next to Midway Woods (on the other side of Columbia Dr. It has a similar feel. I know several people in Forrest Hills who are very happy there.

Good luck!

Yes I agree with cmtiger that Forrest Hills is also a great neighborhood for you to check out. Both Forrest Hills and Midway Woods are outside the City of Decatur's city limits so the school system is not as good. However, the houses are more affordable because of that reason. The closer that you can get to the City of Decatur - the "better" the neighborhood. There has been some rumors of Midway Woods being annexed into the City of Decatur - but with such speculation - I would not purchase a house for that reason.

The positive of Midway Woods is that it is heavily wooded. The park is a big green zone and buffer and because there is a big gully - no one can build across the street from Midway. Slowly the neighborhood is starting to have renovation projects. Mostly a second story added because most of the houses were small one story homes. Most are also situated on deep lots with big back yards.

As you mentioned, lots of folks find the neighborhood desirable because of its affordability and proximity to City of Decatur and downtown. Check out the City of Decatur's website at City of Decatur, GA Sales in City of Decatur have been very solid because of its public school system.

Good luck!
