There are a bunch of newer apartment complexes off of Ashford Dunwoody near Perimeter Mall. It's probably worth checking out the new ones first if bugs are of major concern. They (roaches, that is) seem to like older buildings more than newer ones.

I drove in that area today for the first time and it was lovely. A little busy for my taste, but very nice.

Roaches are everywhere in Georgia. You see them in the summer around doors trying to sneak in. You are more likely to find roaches in the older run down complexes around town. Stick with the higher end apartment complexes and you should be ok.....Prices will run at least $800-$1200 for a one bedroom apt.

I relocated here 14 years ago and I have moved 4 times ( all within Cobb Cty, so I can't tell you about the crime in Norcross) What I CAN tell you is that, in every house I have lived in ( and I am a very clean person) I have had the biggest f**king roaches I have ever seen in my life. They are about an inch wide and an inch and a half long and it takes half a can of Raid to slow them down. The good news is that they mostly live outside the house, but they do come inside occasionally. I won't go out on my deck at night because I have seen as many as half a dozen of them out there.
My husband thinks its funny because I once found a snake in my house and I picked it up and threw it outside, but if I see a roach in the house I start screaming for HIM to come and take care of it!

OMG! I would have had a heart attack!
I have honestly not seen any of these bugs where I live. I moved from Florida so I know all about Palmetto bugs and roaches. I have had the Palmetto bugs in my house before in Florida but only had roaches when I was in an apartment.
No bugs here but spider webs are everywhere outside, that kinda freaks me out.

I lived in a couple of apartments in the Norcross and Doraville areas between 1995 and 1998, and I would not recommend these locations for anyone who wishes to avoid either crime or cockroaches. I agree with some of the other people that Dunwoody would be your best choice if you must live in an apartment. I have heard that some of the apartments in Sandy Springs, most especially on Roswell Rd, also have problems with crime.
If you choose to rent a home instead, I think you will find that, as long as you keep it very clean (and sprayed), you shouldn't have any problems with domestic roaches. However, those giant Palmetto bugs will proudly walk (or fly) in your door whenever they feel like it, especially if you live near a lot of trees.

It is mainly apartment complexes because they are crowded and close together, so they tend to be seen more because they are traveling from one dwelling to another and they have less distance to travel.

Those would be the Palmetto Bugs I posted about earlier.
They also lay eggs in your mouth when you sleep...

It depends on where you are...if you are where there are a lot of trees, you will see some Palmetto or Water Bugs. They are big, black, ugly, and can fly. They look like big black cockroaches and gross me out...growing up, we lived near a whole lot of trees so they were preveaent...then again, I could be wrong about the tree thing, just basing it on what I saw growing up. Cockroaches are more of a brownish/reddish color.
