Relocation
Hi everyone,
My name is Jessica. Me and my fiance are currently living in Miami. We are just about fed up with everything about this city. We are looking to relocate. We've thought about many places but for some reason Georgia keeps coming to mind. So i found this website and wanted to see if some of you would be so kind as to give us your insight. We are a you couple, I am 21 and he is 26. We are looking for a safe, quiet area where we can finally begin our lives together. We are drowning out here in Miami, prices are sky-rocketing and salaries remain the same. I have no clue as to what are the good and bad areas. Could someone please help us out?
I appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Jessica

Plus, I don't think they're too fond here of people posting individual (or personal if it applies) home sales ad links in the forums.

Jessica, what metro area are you looking to move to? I also moved from Miami to Georgia about 4 years ago (now I'm back in Miami, but thats besides the point). Do you want to live near the beach like Savannah, or would you not mind further inland like Atlanta? Whats your budget? Are you looking to rent or buy right away?
If you've lived in Miami your whole life (like myself), I can tell you that Georgia is a BIG adjustment. Things are very different up there. Have you considered just moving away from Miami but not Florida? I know a few people that have moved to Port St Lucie for economic reasons too, housing is pretty affordable there, you have beaches, and its only a couple of hours away from Miami. You may think you wont miss it here, but you will.

Jessica, What do you want to move to? Local or intown? Atlanta is a very large area with all kinds of different communities to look at depending on job, commute, schools, etc. Atlanta is a sprawled suburban network of cities. There is a perimeter highway, I285 that goes around Atlanta. You can live inside that area. Taxes and traffic and prices on homes will definately be an issue there. You can live outside the perimeter and find just about anything you may want in an affordable community that will fit your needs. There is no beach, and there is four seasons here, but most of the year it is comfortable. The worst part is August and January/Febuary(Hot & Cold). The northern part of Atlanta is the area that is experiencing the most growth. The northwest part of town is great but the traffic and options to commute, unless you like tremendous traffic, are not so good. The northeast area is good with traffic also, but there are plenty of highways that lead into the Atlanta area for commuting, This area also is growing tremendously so there is plenty of opportunity for employment. Let me know if you have anymore questions and when you decide what area you might want to explore. All of Atlanta is growing fast with no natural boundaries. You would probably want to look at job opportunities, commute distance, home prices, and school systems. Most people only own homes for about 3 to 5 years so if you move and don't like what you have done you can learn about the area and adjust accordingly. Let me know if I can help...Bill

I moved from the Collier / Defoors area and it was great for me. I was around your age and most of the people in my complex were in their late 20s and the neighborhood was pretty young. The area was quiet but there were a few bars close by and it was less than a 10 minute drive to buckhead and midtown if you wanted more action. I still have my condo for sale in the area but I won't site rules by posting it. I encourage you look at the area though.
