Interesting new phrase "commuting torture", but apparently we're number two in it.

I must be one of few people in Atlanta who doesn't think traffic is that bad.

Depends on where you live. If you're living in the hottest suburbs in the city, traffic is miserable. My parents live in the relatively sparse suburbs to the East so traffic isn't bad.

Traffic here is so heavily skewed to the north. I wonder what would change if Atlanta's traffic were evenly bad all over. As in, 75 and 85 on the south side got as back up as on the northside. If 285 were a disaster all the way around instead of being focused on just the northside. How would average commute times and delays measure up to other cities then? But yes, for now you can have a great commute in the Atlanta area. But there's a good chance you deal with I 20 or anything south of 20.

Guys This Post is 6 years old and the link to the article is broken. Lets bring this to other related threads on the same topic

Btwm Sdeminjerry, Check out my post about Perimeter Center. http://www.city-data.com/forum/33636289-post36.html Look at the population maps of jobs/workers. This trend, for better or worse, explains why areas are more congested. Some have more going on in them.

The difference is the Northside Commuters have more destinations, some closer, they can commute to. There are more people because of this. On the East, West, and South sides there are fewer destinations and most commutes are a downtown-centric or longer ride on 285-centric commutes.

The best bet to even traffic out is to have new industries (with different sets of workers) take root in other parts of town. (ie. film industry perhaps )
