A lot of people pretend to have a preference for one over the other, but I can bet that most aren't really able to make any game-changing distinction between Coke and Pepsi, especially when they're thirsty.

For obvious reasons, of course, Atlanta is the only place I've ever lived where I can remember anyone being so staunchly anti-Pepsi. Most people can take or leave either.

I've noticed a fair amount of Southerners in and around the Buckhead/Brookhaven area. They may be a little hard to find, but they're there, especially in Brookhaven. I hang out at several little bars and restaurants over there and I hear more Southern accents than I heard living in Lawrenceville. Kinda refreshing honestly.

I can most difivtively tell. Coke as a much sharper bite and less "sugary" taste then Pepsi.

I see the traditional SEC preps that you see in any southern city in Buckhead. I wouldn't doubt they have southern accents.

This is obviously a generalization but I think a fair description:

Hipsterville = Midtown, Inman Park, Little Five Points, Virginia Highlands
Trump-ville = Buckhead
Little Detroit = Downtown
White picket fence suburbs = Alpharetta, Roswell, Johns Creek
Beverly Hills = Tuxedo Park / West Paces Ferry
Orange County = Vinings
Cardboard tourist-trap town = Stone Mountain
Golf Heaven / Retirementville = Peachtree City
GTA-Atlanta edition = College Park / Union City / East Point / Vine City
The South will rise again = Kennesaw and beyond

I don't think you've visited Kennesaw, Acworth, Cherokee County, or Forsyth County for a while, eh? Many of the folks in the nice suburban subdivisions that everyone on this forum loves to hate in those areas are transplants.

I think your stereotype is about 20 years out of date.

Yep, but in case some miss the obviousness: Coca Cola, arguably the most famous brand name in the world, is home grown and home based. That's why the anti-Pepsi attitude. Kind of like the attitude in Detroit toward import cars.

I don't know whether this is a Southernism, but my grandpa had a little store for a while and the soft drinks were kept in what he called "the drink box." Just a big cooler, actually, and you'd reach in and pull out what you wanted (assuming he'd let you). It had a bottle opener on the side and I loved letting it fill up and then dumping out a treasure trove of bottle tops.

That's what I learned to play checkers with. You'd either be ups or downs, and the serrated edges made it easy to stack them up to crown your kings.
Exact some box at the crossroads store in the Saint Marks community in Meriwether County where I grew up (hence the screen name). When we went to get our "coke" I would often times get a Double Cola... 16 ounces for the same price as a 10 ounce Coke bottle.

I can clearly remember when I first moved to the Atlanta area in the summer of 1982 to go to college, I was like the kid in "My Cousin Vinnie" and it struck me very odd that people used the word "Coke" to mean soda of any kind and so it sticks in my mind. I can remember many instances of people asking me what kind of "co-cola" I wanted.

Growing up, we always used the word soda to mean any kind of carbonated beverage, and while I used to drink Coke products, we also drank many of the local products in NY like RC Cola, C&C Cola, Dr. Brown, etc. When I moved to Atlanta, it was very hard to find much beyond Coke and Pepsi.

I was gonna say ... Kennesaw is subdivision and strip mall city. Nice hill, though!
