Has anyone experienced living in Monroe, Ga and commuting to Athens? Is this a decent driving experience?

A friend of mine still makes the daily commute from Monroe to UGA. He lives on the east end of Monroe and takes 78 to 316 to Loop 10 to 441 and drives into north campus. It's a 30 minute drive for him most days. If I already lived in Monroe, I wouldn't move for a job in Athens but if I weren't already living in Monroe, I wouldn't move there for an Athens job. There are places closer to Athens that are at least as good, closer, and just as cheap.

Back in my motorcycling days I'd take Snows Mill over to Hog Mountain Road and come in on the south side of town. Back then it was country so you could really open it up and make some time. The main thing you had to look out for was a tractor crossing the road.

It's probably all built up now.
