If I worked inside the perimeter, I'd buy something like this in East Point.

Parkway Cir, East Point, GA 30344 - Zillow

But the commute to Alpharetta would be awful.

I suppose "unbelievable" and "fantastic" are subjective terms.

Do a search on the realty sites and see for yourself.

I can tell you that 2 story 3000+ sf homes built within the last 10 years, in my neighborhood are shortselling for not all that much more than that.

Good advice on the rent first. Once you buy here, you buy for keeps.

Can easily live within 30 mins of decatur in save areas if you are looking for a condo for 60K. "hotspots" like Atlantic Station had loft condos originally going for 200K that are now going for 90K, so I am sure a lot of the "not so popular places" are going for a lot less. Like everyone else said, there are plenty of older homes in a number of places that are probably going for that or a little more. You need to tell us more specifics like if schools matter, if you have access to transportation, and what type of housing you are looking for. You could always rent until you can get more money saved up, there are tons of places that are very affordable for rent.

Search 30058, 30038, and 30088 in trulia (and look at the crime map)... Then compare to the other suggested locations.

anywhere within the area bordered by 85 on the west, 285 on the east and 20 on the south should generally be safe, but there are some exceptions— ask us before you make a decision.

use a website like zillow.com to find a good house in your range. you may also want to consider a condo— you can actually get a really nice condo in a good neighbourhood in that range, whereas if you're looking for an actual house it will be more expensive and in a less-nice neighbourhood.
