Question Are inter-racial familys welcome in Sugar Hill?

I am white, wife black,3 boys 11,9,8.We live in diverse LA.We are considering Sugar or Suwanee as homes are affordable. Is Sugar Hill a safe city, diverse?I have visited ATL many times and rarely see inter-racial couples/children.I am aware of the traffic which is not a issue.Their school in Sugar would be Lanier middle and the new high school being built.Your honest opinions/experience would be appreciated. To geo, ohio, and ellar thx for your past responses.I just changed the title to hopefully get some more responses other than the real estate questions.I am aware Suwanee is better but price is a issue and it appears Sugar is more in tune with our budget.thx

My street in Suwanee is half black, the rest white and Korean, in a neighborhood of $250000 to $400000 homes. There have been biracial kids in my daughter's class every year, with the overall student population about 15% African American and 20% Korean. go into the local Wal Mart and you will see many interracial couples. I believe that Sugar Hill is probably more diverse than Suwanee, maybe more Hispanic. My daughter's soccer coach is black, with a Caucasian wife - the team is mainly white kids, but no one had an issue with the coach. My daughter's first grade teacher was black, and she was well loved by the majority white parents. It may not be quite as diverse as LA, but I don't see race being an issue in this particular area.

Default Repy to Sugar Hill posting

Thx.I am glad someone responded with experience in that area. That was encouraging news.We may wait until we can afford Suwanee as I have heard good things about Morningview,A.Crossings, and we personally would like to purchase near Peachtree Ridge High School so we need to time it better as we looked at some nice homes at 400k plus.I only considered Sugar Hill as the prices are lower.

I live in Suwanee, and used to live in Sugar Hill. You will have no problem as an inter-racial couple. The Atlanta area is home to international businesses and we are used to seeing all kinds of people. I would say the Suwanee area as a whole is a little more upscale than Sugar Hill, but housing can be had for less than $400k! My neighborhood has houses for about 200k, 4 br, 2.5 ba. Peachtree Ridge HS is an excellent school with a very good reputation, good funding for programs, nice kids, etc.

Default inter-racial familys living in Sugar or Suwanee

Twinkletoes, thx for your response. If we can afford to I believe from reading postings we will try to focus on Suwanee around PT Ridge.I have visited that area and do like its surroundings,I just wasnt sure about the racial diversity. The Sugar home we were lookng at was 5 miles north of exit 109,off 111 and just off Sateliite but it seemed rather remote and country compared to what we saw off exit 109 at Sugarloaf homes near the high school. The prices are better in Sugar but you are probably correct that this being our final home it may be better to wait until we can afford Suwanee.

I co-sign with OhioNative. My street in Suwanee is very similar. Just a nice mixture of everybody. You'll notice that north Gwinnett has a large Asian population, but nothing different from many areas in California.

We really like Suwanee. You can't beat the diversity, good schools and desirably quiet neighborhoods.

Thx backfist, everyone who has responded plus other threads I have read recommend Suwanee over Sugar.I flet bad at first as I backed out of buying a really nice home in Sugar but I believe in the long run Suwanee will be a better choice as soon as I can afford to move up to the 300 to 400k for a similar home.

You really don't have to spend 300 to 400k in Suwanee to get a nice home. Have you looked at the MLS listings? What do you consider a "nice home"?

Default Sugar Hill questions

Thx.I guess I had been looking only in the high end of Suwanee which was around PR high school in the Sugarloaf/Centex homes that all start in the 400k price. Is there a good area of Suwanee that has homes in the 200/300k price that has 4bed/basement and not relatively too old?I honestly never looked further than that area of Suwanee.I will return to this thread next Thursday after 9am today.

Just about anywhere in the 30024 zip code is fine, but I would advise staying on the west side of I-85. The other side of the freeway has not appreciated as well.
