You're right, that was a bit harsh and I apologize. The feeling of being stuck here has lent itself to becoming overly critical at times. I'm working on being more positive about everything, but I'm still a work in progress, so I'm sorry for being so judgmental.

What it really comes down to is your second line quoted above. To the right person, Texas is beyond beautiful, it just isn't for us. We really have tried unbelievably hard to convince ourselves we like it here, but we just don't. And it makes me question myself that we don't. Just yesterday, I was asking my wife what could possibly be wrong with us that we are surrounded by millions of people who *love* living here, yet we can't stand it? Her answer was much like yours; it's just not for us, and that's ok.

So, we'll pack up our bags and try again. We're still not sure exactly where just yet, but Atlanta does seem to offer some of the things that make us feel more at home, like tall trees, rolling hills, access to water and cider mills, and a few other things that more closely resemble where we're from in Michigan.

If tall trees and rolling hills are your thing, don't be afraid to swing through East Texas for a visit, before you live.

Atleast you were willing to put your biases aside and make a genuine effort to like a place, which is more than can be said for most. Atlanta is a great place and I'm hoping it's a good fit for you and yours.

Thanks Nairobi! We're headed out to see the area for ourselves in August, and it looks like we'll see your part of the state on the way. But, I can't promise we'll stop. At this point, the only place my wife wants to see Texas is in the rear-view

Thanks for helping me think through all this stuff!

Atlanta heat is humid and Dallas heat is dry. Both are hot but Dallas is a little hotter.
