I feel like, if you can easily afford the $600k house in the neighboring city and want to send your kids to a nice school . . . private school wouldn't be a stretch financially.

Why do people continue to seek advice about doing shady things in public forums? I mean, with a quick google search I can easily pull up other online profiles (How was your February 2009 trip to Vegas?), which I'm guessing could lead someone with a bit more motivation to identifying information. I mean, if you have to ask in a forum that sees thousands of visitors a day how to get away with something . . . probably you should not attempt it. The people getting away with it probably don't leave digital bread crumbs to be tracked down by. Heck I bet forum moderators can pull the IP address of any post here.

It's really astonishing that someone would seek advice on an illegal and unethical scheme on City-Data. If you don't like your home scholl do like the rest of us and either move or belly up to the bar and write the check for private school. Not to come across as massively self righteous, but what message would you be sending to your kids? It okay to lie and cheat to get what you want...

I smell a troll...

I'm a father with 3 children in the Cobb County public schools, but if you are willing to spend that kind of money and risk committing a crime, why not just send the kids to private school?

To be fair, the OP was asking if it was illegal or not. Not asking how to get away with something he or she knows is illegal.

I think the school system looks for where the child spends the night to determine attendance?

have you tried actually contacting the school system? if the school is in your same county, if you press them you'll likely get what you want. no point in being so cloak-and-dagger about it.

Not if the school they want (like Walton) is full. Even DeKalb is giving far fewer desirable transfers than a few years ago and they use to give one out to anyone who asked.

You probably would consider it "snitching" until you have a child in a decent school and are faced with situations like this.

We may not be in the Walton school zone, but I'll be damned if we took the time to buy a house in a nice school zone only to have parents from a county or two over use fake addresses to get the same perks.

How is it affecting YOUR life? All you are doing hurting another child's future out of spite. I'd just be glad my kid was in a good school. If people find a way to get thier kids a good education without hurting anyone then more power to them, jeeze.
