My husband & I are looking to relocate for change. We live in PA now & were we live is very unsocialable, Political, unfriendly, & people are small minded. Not being from here people tend to judge and just want to keep to themselves and thier clicks. We are looking for friendly & socialable people first, a mix of people, were you can go out the house & people strike up a conversation, make eye contact, and do not fear different or change. How would you rate it for socialable & friendliness in Atlanta & surrounding areas?
Thanks Much

even in PA there are areas much friendlier to your ideology and outlook, so I think you just need to make sure you end up in such areas down here. Rent somewhere intown (decatur/inman/va-hi/candler/etc) and see if it's agreeable to you first.

Two area's we were considering Decatur or Marietta? Which one is more socialable, friendly & multicultural? We like the look of both & they are in our price range.

my opinion only but I like Decatur a lot. The only negative would be that it is a bit far away from some job centers (imagine the commute from Decatur to Alpharetta or Kennesaw or Johns Creek). But if you can make all variables fit then I strongly recommend Decatur (city limits, not the unincorporated)

Would be traveling to Sandy Springs, how long do you think that would take?

I think Decatur would be friendlier, with a mix of people who want a good quality of life as I think you define it. Marietta is more materialistic and about bigger homes, but there are friendly people there as well.

Lets just put it this way - I live in SS and I would not want to commute to Decatur. There just isn't a straight path to it and you'll definitely hit some traffic choke points. But if you have non standard work hours you should be fine.

I think the OP is looking for more progressive areas. Otherwise, why not just live in SS or Dunwoody because it's not any more to live there than the likes of Decatur.
