Look at APD website for crime stats. Don't believe peoples perception of safe neighborhoods.

So bottom line, because I am interested in knowing too for someone who may be moving to the area.

Where could a single 20 something guy live, in a high rise apartment, that is in walking distances to pubs, restaurants, etc. that is safe. Rent about $1200 a month. (or less hopefully). Lots of nightlife, but SAFE

Mmm, you could do this if you were willing to live with roommates. Hi rise apartment means either Perimeter (north), midtown, downtown or Buckhead.

Of those areas, Perimeter is the safest, i think.

Midtown is the best bet. Perimeter has little to no bars except Taco Macs. Midtown is packed full of bars, walking distance to bars, restaurants, grocery stores, Piedmont Park, and transit. The area is safe and most apartments provide garage parking.

But, I'll have some people say that certain neighborhoods are perfectly safe and walk-able, and other people say that they'd be scared to just drive through them.
When someone gives you an opinion about a neighborhood, find out how much personal knowledge they have. There are alot of people that have perceptions (and very vocal opinions) about areas of Atlanta without actually spending anytime in those areas.

I remember 10 years ago, my sister who lives in Johns Creek had friends that were shocked that I was a single girl living in Smyrna - they wondered how safe that was. Smyrna does not even rate compared to questionable safe areas in the Atlanta area.

But it turns out this person was making assumptions because Smyrna is closer in town, more diverse as far as Black and Hispanic population and not a lower average income and house price. The person had actually never been to Smyrna!
