Exactly. Generic, unofficial names.

The city of atlanta runs And owns the airport so regardless of where it is, its the city of atlanta's property in My mind. But if another airport is built in the northern suburbs its safe To say it wont have atlanta in the name.

Also, pretty sure the new porsche US hq is going To be built right inside the border of atlanta near the airport. Probably not a coincidence but proof the prestige of atlanta in the address is worth it. I say charge businesses who use the atlanta address who are outside of atlanta. Most just get po boxes in atlanta or with atlanta address also it seems.

Atlanta city limits do include parts of Hartsfield-Jackson. Why else would the city own, fund, and be involved with the airport?

Well, it has been wrong before, but according to Wikipedia:

Quote:
The airport is located mostly in unincorporated areas in Fulton and Clayton counties; the city limits of Atlanta,College Park, and Hapeville extend to the airport grounds.
It doesn't indicate which parts of the airport are in which areas, but it says that most of the airport is unincorporated.

I know Wikipedia is flawed, so if you can find a more credible source with information that does not agree with the above, feel free to post.

No, it is not. It is in the City of Hapeville. If you go to maps.google.com and type in Hapeville, GA, you will then see the city limits of Hapeville. Then, if you look at the satellite view, you can see the construction site where Porsche is building their headquarters. There was a reason the former Ford plant located at that site, was called the Ford Hapeville Plant! Hapeville will receive the property taxes for the new headquarters building. Delta Airlines coporate headquarters is also located within the Hapeville City Limits off of Airport Loop Rd. just south of Virginia Ave.

The big picture is that the Atlanta Airport is not conitguous with the rest of the City of Atlanta. Probably 80 years ago, the City purchased the land for the Airport. It was never annexed to the existing city. In fact, most of the Airport property is located in Clayton County. The City of Atlanta has never annexed any area of Clayton.

Keep in mind that many Fortune 500 HQ's in the Atlanta area are located in Sandy Springs, Vinings, etc. For example, Home Depot is in unicorporated Cobb (near Vinings) and UPS is within the City of Sandy Springs as is Newell Rubbermaid and Cox Communicaitons.

Actually it won't be in Hapeville city limits but close enough to benefit Hapeville greatly. It will be inside the Atlanta city limits on Interstate 75. The Hapeville mayor acknowledged that but is still happy.

Maybe the city leaders from Sandy Springs will give the "new" Brookhaven community some tips and advice on how to initially get their city set up...it's looks like they are going to need it.
