This isn't NYC to Atl, but when my wife and I moved from Atl to Boston, the price came out to around $15k (her company paid for it). That included 4 men packing everything for us (from 7am to 7pm), loading it into the truck, all packing supplies, driving it to Boston, unpacking it for us, and also shipping 1 car. The company was Budd Vanlines. They lost a few items, but reimbursed us for it, no questions asked.

Always check with the BB for complaints against moving companies. Get a few estimates also.

We spoke to three companies before moving from NJ to GA this past July. The prices were based on how much they estimated our stuff to weigh (it ranged from 9,000lbs to 13,000lbs), and ranged from a low of around $6,000 to over $9,000. None of these prices were guaranteed, as they were all subject to actual weight verification.
Those prices included loading and unloading, but no packing.
We ended up having two PODS dropped in our driveway a few weeks before the move. We loaded one ourselves with just boxes and some small furniture, and hired some movers from Craigslist to load the second one with the freezer, W/D, and all the big furniture. We hired local Craigslist guys here in GA for the unloading and distribution into the house. All told, we spent around $4,500.
