Your choices are like Farmington Hills, Novi, Livonia and Royal Oak. Only one makes sense for you. The last one.

Atlantic Station. The Royal Oak.

Use “Promove” http://www.promove.com/ as a starting point for an apartment. It’s a free service (i.e. the complexes pay Promove) and is really good for identifying quality complexes in the area. You basically tell them your criteria and they send over a listing of maybe 10-30 apartments/condos that fit your range. The neat thing is – they don’t come with you to see the units –so you never feel pressured into choosing a specific unit/location. One thing I didn’t realize is most complexes don’t come with washer/dryer like in the Midwest, but there are plenty of services that rent out units/deliver, so it’s nothing to sweat.

An update,
I decided to live right front of Perimeter mall and neighborhood is called Dunwoody.
Literally, it's 5 min drive to everything and I love it. It's similar to Troy and Farmington Hills in Michigan, however, it has more retail stores and restaurants. Plus, it has Marta station right behind Perimeter mall so you don't have to drive to city or airport.
About the traffic, people are trying to get in and out of Atlanta downtown and Midtown so it shouldn't be hard to figure out.
-Morning, no traffic on I-285 West, I-75 North, I-85 North, GA400 North
traffic on I-285 East, I-75 South, I-85 South, GA400 South
-Evening, traffic everywhere...
better on I-285 East, I-75 South, I-85 South, GA400 South
worst on I-285 West, I-75 North, I-85 North, GA400 North
I don't drive on I-20 so I have no clue.
Almost everyday there are accidents so be careful and prepare to be stuck in a traffic.

Just wait until Christmas shopping season. All the roads around the mall will be parking lots.

I work in the same area and live in Smyrna. It has good young scene and it's only 10 minutes into town. It take me 10 minutes to get to work in the morning. Just stay as close to the highway as you can.
