Key West is definitely not a 'beach destination'...a couple of crummy man-made beaches and thats it. Otherwise, very charming.

You don't have to go all the way to Key West to experience the the Keys--actually some of the other islands are nicer, more serene and beaches more pristine.

Also, looks like you haven't been to the Tampa area, maybe check out Clearwater Beach of St. Pete...is just to say you've been there.
