it's really not though— they use all beef hot dogs and cook with peanut oil rather than hydrogenated soybean oil or beef tallow. even though it seems more "greasy" it's because they cook with oils that don't solidify, unlike mcdonald's and wendy's, so it drips out and stays oily— that's how you know that the oil is unsaturated, when it is liquid at room temperature. they got a 98 on their recent health inspection.

The Varsity is awesome. Glad to see the president eating with average people. Think he had some orange drank?

Oh, I know that, but I meant to refer to the main V on North Avenue. I can't recall ever seeing a white person behind the counter. Maybe none have ever applied.

I guess so. I've just never seen any white folks working behind the counter and have sometimes wondered why that was.

But what would his prep-school, Harvard and Chicago academic elite friends think?

Oh yeah... they'd think it was an election year and Barry O is pandering his broken message again.

Didn't realize pandering was a new thing. Face it, presidents rarely exist in the same world as you and I. Few have ever had a middle class upbringing so eating a chili dog or breaking out the "ya'll" when they come down south is the closest they're ever going come across as relatable. Seeing Romney at a NASCAR event is equally painful. People want their presidents to be extraordinary...Harvard/Yale/et al and the people that have the capability to reach for the office often come from multi-generational wealth/prominence (Bush, Kennedy(s), McCain, Romney, Huntsman, Kerry by marriage, etc). Actual self-made candidates possibly could be found at Varsity while not running for office (thinking Cain) often fail to garner a broader appeal among deep pockets who do finance things these days.

Varsity was a carefully picked location that brings up the everyman photo-op that they all want. Imagine the press if you had seen Obama over at Quinones for some foie gras specially made by the chef after they shut down a 2 sq mile area? What other campaign stop would have pulled off a better outcome?

Well, W used to go the Varsity sometimes and I never heard any criticism from his prep school, Yale and Harvard academic elite friends. You don't get much closer to royalty in this country than being born into the Bush family.

At least O has a message, unlike the other guy who has been on both sides of every issue possible, flapping in the wind whichever way his handlers said would advance him.

W was better at acting though. he had everyone convinced he was a texas cowboy everyman, when he was born in massachusetts with a silver spoon in his mouth.
