Default Alpharetta downtown redevelopment picks up speed

Alpharetta downtown redevelopment picks up speed

Alpharetta downtown redevelopment picks up speed - Atlanta Business Chronicle

Alpharetta is moving ahead with its more than $30 million city center redevelopment. The city has selected Choate Construction as construction manager for the 22-acre project at Alpharetta Highway, Academy Street and Haynes Bridge Road. By the end of the month, the city should have a better idea of how large a central component of the project — a new city hall — will be.

From there the first phase of the project moves to engineering and site design.
The opening is targeted for July 2014, said James Drinkard, assistant city administrator.
A $29 million bond approved last year will finance the 5-acre park, town plaza, city hall, and parking, giving the city a true downtown.

Good for them.

A 5 acre park will be a nice touch. I know that Suwanee makes extensive use of its green space for festivals and concerts.

I wish Alpharetta well in its downtown development. I think they'll do it right.

i live in downtown alpharetta so i've been watching this carefully. they're going to re-route the northern end of haynes bridge road to the east, convert it from a 4-lane road into a 2-lane road, add roundabouts and medians, and turn the area it currently resides in to a park and a library. basically they're un-doing the damage that suburban development did to alpharetta 15 years ago.

honestly the people we've got in the city council here would surprise you very much for being a suburban community. for the first time this past may, they turned the taste of alpharetta into a real street festival with beer and wine, had all sorts of international cuisine, the only caveat being that it was on a thursday night and they had to open the street for traffic the next morning, so it ended around 10:30.
