Suwanee vs Dallas
After reading all of the posts, I am trully confused. For someone who has never left Florida I am trying to get an idea of where to move in Georgia. I did visit Dallas this past weekend and saw a few homes. I liked it alot because it was a small town and I thought the schools were good.
Then I started reading some of your thoughts and now I am not sure.
I know I want to move to Georgia. I know that some of you hate it and think it is a bad decision but I want to see it for my self. The good comments out weigh the bad.
If you had a choice, based on your knowledge, not hear say, where would you move. Coming from the busy City of Fort Lauderdale, I thought that Dallas was very nice. There were a lot of trees and beautiful homes. The houses that I saw would cost close to 500K in Florida. The cost of living is very high and the jobs do not pay that well. I'm not looking for a drastic change. Of course there is crime and traffic. Is there any where in the country that does'nt have this.
Here is why I'm moving:
1. Hurricanes, Hurricanes and more Hurricanes
2.High cost of living
3.High insurance rates
4.Schools not so great
I do like my neighborhood, quiet, diverse and nice people. I dont get out much, I have 2 kids and we are just looking to make a change. Please tell me if Suwanee is a good please that I will have what I have here. Diversity, good schools and overall better way of living.

I believe Suwanee was chosen as one of Money Magazine's top places to live. I have co-workers that live in Dallas and like it. They work in Atlanta and do not find the commute to be too much. I think you may get more house for your money in Dallas but Suwanee may have better schools. The good schools are usually in the priciest areas.

Did you inquire about the schools in Paulding via paulding.com which I suggested when you posted about this in another post?
Note - this is also cross-posted in the Georgia AND Atlanta forums.

You're talking about two different areas. One on the far west side of metro Atlanta, and the other on the far NE side. Dallas is more rural and "country" and Suwanee is more "typical suburban" anymore. Traffic into Atlanta isn't as bad from Dallas, and more congested along I-85 from Suwanee. You have more retail options however in Suwanee, as you have the very busy (and crowded) Gwinnett County area around you, plus Gwinnett Mall and just north, the Mall of Georgia. In Dallas you have Arbor Place Mall south in Douglasville, and a shopping district just East in Hiram.
I'm more of a rural person these day and have "been there done that" with inner city living. So personally I'd pick Dallas, but, each person is different.
If you as you say are a stay-at-home mom with two kids who "doesn't get out much" you'd most likely find a HUGE network of similar (though sometimes slightly nutty) moms on that paulding.com site. There are tons of stay-at-home moms there, and they network and socialize, etc.

Suwanee is great and if I don't want to, I don't have to leave the area as there are plenty of places to shop. The schools here are top notch, not so much in Dallas, IMO.

I would pick Dallas
I have experienced both places. Suwanee and North Dallas (Frisco TX).
I definitely pick Frisco TX!!!
Suwanee is full of "Fake rich people" with two faces. So expensive and you have the worst traffic that could ever imagine. Schools are good but not great.
Frisco TX. is a growing city with an impressive mall and you have to drive at most 10 minutes to get everything!!!
Schools are great because are independent districts. Traffic? a lot much better than Atlanta. Thats for sure.

I believe the OP was referring to Dallas, GEORGIA. Not Dallas Texas. And not everyone in Suwanee is fake rich wannabe or whatever the heck you said. I feel offended by that statement and unless you've come in contact with at least HALF OF THE POPULATION OF SUWANEE, please don't make blanket statements like that. We're not one of the best cities to live in for nothing

This is an open forum by the way...they ask for an opinion and whatever you said is valid: "For you". What I said is valid for me and that was exactly what I expressed: My point of view.
Its great you live happy there. Congratulations.
