My husband and I are moving to ATL. He got a job in stockbridge. We would like to live in a very nice neighborhood/city in between stockbridge and alpharetta. We have family in Alpharetta so we would like to be somewhere close without having a crazy commute. We are looking for homes in the 400s-500s. We love Alpharetta but it may be to far. Are there any towns like this...but closer?

There are lots of great cities in Fayette County (Fayetteville, Peachtree City) that would make the commute to Stockbridge pretty good. Great schools and homes definitely in that price range. For commute reasons, I would avoid anything on the north side (cross-city commuting is a nightmare - in both directions). I know that living on the south side means you will probably be about an hour from family in Alpharetta, but for your day-to-day commute, you will be thankful you live closer to your husband's work.

I would settle in Stockbridge or anywhere else in Henry county. Even the Fayette drive would be tumultuous. Traffic around there is horrible because there is a large population with little to no roads to accomodate traffic. McDonough has some very nice neighborhoods and schools. I wouldnt go anywhere NEAR northside if you are working/husband is working on southside. the commute would be crippling, unless either of you enjoy 5 hours in your car on a daily basis. I lived in Henry county for 15 years and recently got tired of commuting in the area and moved to midtown. Anyting more thatn 10-15 miles, youll regret it, I promise. Good luck!

Clarkston is not the best area in my opinion. For the price range you're looking at, you're better off heading toward Briarcliff and North Druid Hills if that's the direction you want to take. But again, the commute will not be pleasant.

There are so many nice neighborhoods that would be closer to work. Your husband's family will understand, especially if you tell them that you will be living down there so that he doesn't spend hours a day in traffic and therefore not have time or energy for you let alone to visit them.
