Hello All,

I am new to the forum here. I am moving from Houston, TX to start a new assignment at Ft. McPherson. Are there any decent places on the west side of ATL that are worth considering moving to? The northwest side? Coming from Houston I am used to driving big distances and lengthy commute times to get places.

Thanks Much!

G

My preferred budget is between $1000-$1500. Not interesting in buying, I will be renting. Ideally, I am looking for a smooth commute (45 minutes or less), a relatively safe neighborhood, and amenities such as biking/running trails, gyms, etc.

Thanks!

You will have lots of options. I would stick close to quick and easy access to I-75/85.

Inman Park, Candler Park, Midtown Atlanta and West Midtown are just a few options.

The Camp Creek area isn't far from McPherson at all and I believe there are a few neighborhoods in that area where you can find the requested amenities within that price range.

The West side doesn't have a lot of neighborhoods that offer what you're looking for (biking trails, safe neighborhods, etc), but the Camp Creek area is one.

If you want to move a little further west (Douglas County), I'm sure there are more neighborhoods in that county that provide what you're looking for.

Cobb County, midtown, city of Decatur, and buckhead should also be within 45 minutes-1 hour (during rush hour) and have plenty of neighborhoods that also have what u need.

Smyrna would be a relatively easy commute (about 20 miles). It will fit in your budget and offers the following:

Silver Comet Trail for biking and running

Silver Comet Trail Georgia - Welcome

Chattahochee National Park - Cochran Shoals for biking and running

Cochran Shoals unit - Interstate North entrance - Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area

Most of the National Gyms are in this area including LA Fitness, World Fitness, Retro Fitness etc.

Lots of running in the Atlanta area - that will be easy to find. Make sure you check out the Atlanta Track Club

You don't have to drive a big distance to be stuck in the car for 45 minutes in Atlanta

There are lots of potential bottlenecks in the road network here.

8,0000 USD? You should be able rent just about anything for that.
