If you've gotten a ticket between late Dec 2011 and March 2012, you may have been ticketed illegally in the City of Stone Mountain.

Quote:
According to the federal complaint filed last week, police wrote traffic tickets based on readings from a laser speed detection device that had an expired certification. The citations were written between Dec. 29 and March 28.

Federal law requires that law enforcement agencies have their speed detection equipment checked and certified each year. Stone Mountains' detectors were re-certified in late March.

I'm surprised, Georgia State Patrol and media didn't publicize this information for Stone Mountain as was done for all the municipalities in Gwinnett County during their court case.

Default Stone Mountain Ticket Practices

I avoid Stone Mountain at all cost. I will go 20 miles out of my way to avoid going through this town. They are funding the new police cars with ticketing randomly and falsely presenting evidence in court. I know I made one of the car note payments with a ticket of $400.00 plus.

I usually go close to 80 on the Stone Mountain Freeway (the stretch where the limit is 65), no problem.

No portion of Stone Mountain Freeway is inside the City of Stone Mountain.

I was ticketed on I-285 around Greenbriar Mall by the City of East Point over 10 years ago. It says a lot of a city that large portion of its funding comes from police services rather than from its amenities.

In fact, I would say that outside of Atlanta, it's hard to say that any other Georgia city has something about it worth visiting. I would probably make an exception for Savannah, but that's it.

Most other cities seem to just govern themselves like typical gooberville speed traps with very little to offer culturally.
