That hotel has been abandoned for as long as I can remember, which is approximately 8 years.

It's a really big hotel facility, too.

What kind of hotel was it?
Why did it shut down?
Why bother fencing it in and not tear it down?
Were there every any plans to do something with it?
Why are there often trucks or vehicles parked there?

In the past 4-5 years I've been biking to work and I pass right by it. I'm so tempted to climb the fence and explore the place. But obviously that would be a terrible idea.

Anyway, everyday I see it and wonder and then I forget to ask on here. But today I remembered.

Anyone?

It was the Executive Park Hotel, managed, I believe, by Best Western. It was quite posh in Its day; the club on the top floor was a favorite gathering place for the local movers and shakers.
After the hotel closed, it was used by BellSouth as a regional training center; that closed about 10 years ago. The building has been derelict ever since.
There were plans to reopen the hotel around the time Sembler was planning Town Briarcliff; the real estate bust put a stop to that.

Hm...I wonder why I see vehicles parked there? And not just once, but every week.

It is a shame it's closed. Anyone know why it closed?

I say it's a shame because it's BIG, has the top-floor bar/club/restaurant, a pool, tennis courts, a parking deck.

If not a hotel, it could be turned into office space with a club up top and a fitness center for the offices (to use the pool and tennis courts, in part).

I hope they do something with it.

(By the way, I can remember farther than 8 years back, but it was about 8 years ago that I noticed this place)

Default was wondering the same thing

It is sad to let a perfectly good building go to waste. It would seem that given the location this hotel could have done well.

Is there any way that the building could be repurposed or has it been neglected for too long?

In January 2013, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta bought the building for $9.6 million. Here are the plans this summer for demolition. We just got the email this morning from facilities. The Park is our ajoining office buildings that house all of the administrative (non clinical) departments.

In the next couple of weeks, Facilities will begin preparing the four BellSouth buildings located next to The Park for demolition.

Below is a brief timeline of the demolition process:
Contractors begin the abatement process of the asbestos found in each of the four buildings. The asbestos removal will strictly adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants guidelines. Air quality and/or employee, worker or community health should not be affected and measures are in place to protect everyone throughout the process.

August: Contractors begin demolition to three of the lower-story buildings, including the motels and conference center.
Fall 2014: Contractors implode the 19-story building. The implosion date is still to be determined, but employees will be notified of the date prior to the implosion.
