The Home Depot Depot at AT&T Tracks powered by Georgia Power. At street level it will feature Coca-Cola Square which will be situated along the lovely new boulevard Robert Winship Woodruff Memorial Avenue, the street sign of which would be long enough to use as a surfboard.

You know Delta will have to be worked in there somewhere...actually Delta Station wouldn't be half bad.

Seriously though, I'm thinking they might give a nod to Atlanta's history by using "terminus" in the title...but probably not if a significant corporate sponsor steps up.

Yeah, it happened in some cities, but as you pointed out, not in others. I don't think the GM buyout happened in Atlanta either. It lingered in Pittsburgh and the system gave out. GM might have only sped up the inevitable.

At the time a lot of folks were glad to see the trolleys go. They were viewed as old and cantankerous, and they were not exactly traffic friendly. You also couldn't change or extend a route like you could with buses.

There will be a fight to prevent commuter service through Howell Junction, NW of downtown.

I wish they would invest in some sort of tunnel to help avoid Howell Junction. One that could possibly allow a stop or two in west midtown with express tracks to allow most trains to bypass.

Best scenario is if a tunnel is built north of the MMPT along Luckie St, Tech Parkway, and Northside. Add stations at Pemberton Place, GA Tech, and somewhere around 10th and Northside. Stations would have express tracks to allow trains to bypass.

Set up a line that is branded separately from the rest of the commuter rail system. It would have frequent service, but a shorter route. It would use the new stations in the Westside Tunnel and stop at Atlantic Station, Peachtree St (the current Amtrak station) and Lindbergh. I think this would be wildly popular as that part of town is under served by transit. The transformation this line would spark would be incredible. High rises would start to pop up on Westside and Atlanta's urban core would be much larger than Peachtree St. There is SO MUCH infill possibility on the Westside.

DO IT.

It seems as if they will have to build flyovers or tunnels at the Junction. Shouldn't be a big deal as we would be creating an entire new transport system.
That would be horribly expensive.
