Long, long drive to the shore. Not a particularly fun or scenic one either. Depressing.

The Gulf is way better than the beaches of S.C. or S.E. Georgia.

Went to PCB as a kid- had the old miracle mile strip and mom and pop motels. Thats all but gone now. The whole scene has changed now from what I understand. Last time I was there was 1989. Have been going to Destin ever since. I have property there. Will build one of these days. In the mean time- rent condos from two different owners. We try and go twice a year- early summer, just after school. And the 1st or 2nd weekend in Oct. Yes, we're leaving thursday afternoon for the weekend.
After fifteen years the drive is really nothing. And I much prefer the gulf coast to the atlantic.

fil is on a distinguished road
We use to take 3 day weekends to Destin.

I'd do day trips for work to Tampa-St Pete early which is about an hour flight and save time for the beach before coming home that same day, so some of us do day trips to the beach. Flights to Tampa were below $200 round trip when I was doing this.

Airtran tickets to VA Beach are also below $300 round trip and it's a 1.5 hour flight.
