Im traveling from south AL to western NC Saturday and my planned route goes thru Atlanta on I-85. How bad would the traffic be around noon? I'm thinking it shouldnt be too bad on a weekend, but want to make sure.

It shouldn't be too bad unless there is a car accident or construction (which unfortunately happens on weekends here). The downtown connector will probably have some volume but I doubt you will have to slow down too much. The connector can be unpredictable on weekends though.

I don't really think traffic is ever really that bad here but I'm from a more populated city than many cities in AL so what's minor to me could be big to you. I wouldn't sweat it though, just be cautious and don't be dumb.

With the road surfacing project on 285, you may experience some slow down on 85 South prior to 285...

It shouldn't be too bad as long as you DON'T get on I-285. With the weekend paving they are doing they shut it down to 1 or 2 lanes and traffic is terrible on there so go through downtown. The Braves are at home but the game is at 7:35 so that shouldn't impact you unless you leave late.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to make sure there isn't any kind of event going on that would create extra traffic. It's an eight hour trip, so I don't want to spend an hour sitting in a traffic jam. I'll being staying on I-85 until I get to I-985 towards Gainesville.

There is a Braves game at 7:10 PM on saturday, and the stadium is right off of 75/85. Typically that wouldn't be much of an issue, but because it will be Chipper Jones' next-to-last home game, it'll probably be sold out our very close to it.

There is the Atlanta Football Classic tomorrow at the Georgia Dome at 3:30pm. Noon you should still be safe - but there might be incremental traffic because there is a parade and other festivities tomorrow starting around 10:00AM.

I would check 511 or NaviGAtor when you are near fairburn, To see if you want to go thru downtown atlatna, or go around the EAST side of atlanta on I285 (west side i285 is being re-paved) with some minor lane closing on (i285 East side) but sould not be that bad.

Also, Georgia Tech is playing at noon. If you hit ATL at noon, you should be OK. Just prepare for some backups/slow downs.
