Family of three looking to move to Dallas, Carrollton, or Marietta, parents are in their 40's and one child 21. Looking for information on these three cities. If the people are friendly, the crime rate, type of people, and general opinions.
We are moving from Eau Claire Wi and have two dogs, so nice areas to walk dogs are a must, if anyone knows about housing that has large yards that would be great. Also I will be attending college/tech while down there so any opinions about near buy colleges/techs.
Outdoor activities would be nice, such as kayaking, hiking, fishing.

Considering your hobbies, Lakewood and the White Rock area in Dallas would be perfect. Mostly older homes, with good sized lots. Carrollton is a nice safe low crime suburb. I would also consider other northern suburbs like, Richardson and Plano.

Your quote refers to Texas suburbs. The OP is talking about suburbs of Atlanta, GA which includes Dallas, GA, Marietta, GA and Carrollton, GA.

Carrollton, GA is not generally considered a suburb of the Atlanta area but is nice.

Need more info- type of house- budget, need to be close to anything else (airport, city, etc?) Marietta is a great place, but there are different sections and the crime varies depending on the section. The same with Dallas, and Dallas is more rural. Both would have easy Access to Kennessaw State University which is a University of around 20K. I am sure there are some other smaller colleges with easy access. In downtown there are a number of colleges, but acess can vary from 30-40 mins without traffic depending on where you are in Dallas/Marietta to 1+ hours during rush hour. Carrollton would be similar to Dallas, more Rural and would be about an hour plus ride to the city. There is University of West Ga there so I think Carrollton would be more of a college city as there really is nothing else there.

Default more information

Housing: around $200,000 perferably with a basement ( i dont know do Georgia homes have basements?) 3+ bedrooms/2+ baths large yard , Jobs: would need an area that would have accounting, and healthcare (hospital or nursing homes). A city with a college that offers nursing within a 30 min drive. And relatively low crime ( we are coming from WI so we dont have much crime where we live). And then parks, trails, lakes, outdoor things to do.

thank you.

Personally I would look for jobs first and then decide where to live near work. Dallas doesn't have a university that I know of. West Georgia(don't know if they have nursing or not) is in Carrollton and Kennesaw State is very close to Marietta. You have picked a pretty huge area to look and I don't really know how someone could come up with those as 3 options unless you just drew them out of a hat to be honest. None of the areas should be too bad for crime but it depends on what kind of lifestyle you want. Carrollton is its own town, Dallas is pretty rural, and Marietta is a large suburb of Atlanta but far enough out that you can certainly get what you are looking for in that price range. I don't know about a basement but I am sure some houses do have them although most are just built on a slab.

Carrollton is a college town but it's also very family oriented also, it's a really good mix, plus the schools are pretty good from what I hear- better than Dallas. The city just built an outdoor ampitheatre in the historic downtown district that holds lots of family-oriented free shows and concerts. Every couple months there will be arts and crafts festivals downtown too. UWG student life doesn't really seem to exist much outside of Maple street and downtown Carrollton. You don't want to live around the UWG campus though, there's lots of high crime areas on that side of town. There's definitely more to do in Carrollton than Dallas in the way of entertainment, shopping and dining.
