For a metro of 5M+ people we all know how bad Atlanta's traffic is. Its infamous in the same way Detroit is known for Urban Blight.
when you look on the map the first thing you notice is Atlanta only has 1 beltway system.
Similar cities like Indianapolis/Charlotte/Kansas city/Columbus have only 2M people in the metro and their traffic isnt as bad and they have 1 beltway.
So when is Atlanta going to either A build its mass transit system and get people off the freeways to alleviate the congestion. or B when is Atlanta going to build a 2nd or 3rd beltway?
Houston, Texas has 2 beltways and its not that much bigger than Atlanta.

The question should be when will Indianapolis get its act together? Atlanta beats Indianapolis in every department plus our heavy rail is better than Indy heavy rail

'tis the curse of being the seat in a Republican state. They'll throw as much money as possible if it goes towards roads, but anything like light rail, or passenger rail, you can forget it. Developers don't want it, "making us spend money on sidewalks and parks?" yeah forget even adding a bus line next to their precious developments. It might hurt their bottom line when their priority is fetching as much money as possible on a mediocre quality dwelling with the bare minimum infrastructure provided. They could build a barrier or a wall around their developments, but that equals $$$ they'd rather not spend.

I don't even know why people get so bugged out about traffic down here when it's really not that bad.

You live and work intown? Try northern suburbs to 285 in the morning, or 285 to the northern suburbs in the PM. Or 285 northern arc.

It's really not that bad. If you know how to navigate the city it's nothing really. I think the reputation comes largely from out of state travellers that are unfamiliar with the city, and stressed about the sheer number of vehicles and lanes.

I guess we should aspire to the greatness of Michiana?

Seriously, why is this kind of thread even allowed here...it's shameful that anyone can come into this section and start a thread about some nonsense like this. Is there a point here?

Good question.

It seems that everyone wants to be the bully who kicks sand in poor little metropolitan Atlanta's face. Funny enough, no one says anything about the state political leadership who shares most of the blame in holding Atlanta back.

I simply don't care to start a thread on the state bubbas because I already know that it will receive probably 2 postings at the most.
