Looking at 1 br/studio apartment under 1K
Job is in Suwanee and I am looking for a half-hour commute
No kids; single
Could do suburban, but I would like to live in a walkable neighborhood
Access to public transport would be nice, but not necessary
I am a bit of a geek, but I like to go to bars now and then

Any help would be nice

I'd suggest Dunwoody
or anywhere ITP between North Atlanta, Doraville, Chamblee...any other walkable area(ie midtown) would put you over 30 min and possibly over your budget

Even though it is located in Suwanee, the workplace is in between 85 and 400 than near 85. Would it be better to live closer to Atlanta to reverse commute?

Yep. 85 is a straight shot. Try to avoid having to get on 285 if you can. I forgot how far north Suwanee was lol. You might be better off living in Norcross. Norcross is a good mid location

As a young professional myself I can tell you the suburbs is not the place to live at right now if you want to walk around and hit the bar scene. I live in Midtown (Atlantic Station to be exact) and work in Suwanee. It takes me about 30 minutes to get to work going straight up 85N. I love being able to go bar hopping during the week and only have to drive 5 minutes back to my place.

What if I live near a MARTA station? Are there any bars near buckhead, midtown, or atlantic station?

This is where most of the bars are, but marta isnt really reliable if you want to stay out late. atlanta is a car centric city.

I think you your workplace is probably close to Mc Ginnis Ferry and Hwy 141 (based on the fact you said Suwanee, and between GA 400 and 85).

If so, interestingly there is bus service from Doraville Marta to that area. But service is limited, and something to consider if you have regular hours.

FYI, there is Gwinnett Suwanee (which is the real Suwanee) and Forsyth Suwanee and Fulton Suwanee (the latter two just use 30024 zipcode)
