I will be driving on I-75 soon to get from Marietta to Stockbridge faster. I could take I-285, but it usually takes an hour and I was late for my dentist appointment yesterday and had to re-schedule.

I want to be prepared because my grandfather told me to never take I-75. But for me to get to places faster, including his house, I may need to take 75.

So, what should I expect?

I know the speed limit is 65 mph. So does that mean the average speed is like 75 mph? Which is fine with me.

Should I expect lots of traffic in the mornings? That's when my next dentist appointment is.

The speed limit drops to 55 between Windy Hill and 285.

Speed limit is 55 but most people do 65-75 but the 75 ITP is heavily patrolled by GSP, Department of Public Safety and APD so watch your speed.

Traffic will be congested before 285, near the merge of 75/85 and prior to 20 through the Grady Curve. After 20, it will be clear sailings.

Is the dentist in Stockbridge your only choice? That is quite a long drive for a dentist in a city with thousands of dentists.

People don't drive any faster on I75 than on any other Atlanta highway...some drive the speed limit, some drive over the speed limit. You have 10 lanes to choose from, so you can decide how fast you want to drive.

Can't comment on the traffic but I feel your pain about the dentist situation in this town.
It's ridiculous!
Everyone I know drives an hour or more to get to their dentist and can't find one they like close to home.

There aren't that many and the online reviews for most of them are really bad!

Yes, that's the reason I travel so far. I've been with this dentist for almost ten years, and he is the best I know.

Okay, I thought you must have been with this dentist for a long time to travel so far. I haven't ever had a problem finding a dentist I like near my house in Atlanta, but I guess I've been lucky.

Why would you not go through downtown going Marietta-Stockbridge? Even during the afternoon rushhour, it's only backed up from Brookwood through about I-20, then a few miles after I-285 on the other side.

I swear there's traffic almost all the time on the downntown connector through the Atlanta urban core(Midtown/Downtown). It depends. If it's during prime morning commute hours, it will be traffic and it's going to take about 10 minutes just to go through that small 4 mile stretch.

The left travel lane (not HOV) will be traveling 5 mph slower than all other lanes.
