My husband and I are both educators in South Florida. We are out priced and looking for a smaller, quieter lifestyle. I am a guidance counselor and my husband is a math teacher (aspiring administrator). We are looking to relocate next june and we would like to find a good county to target our search. It appears guidance positions are difficult to get in Cobb Co.
What about Job Fairs in Gwinett or Cobb? Any info would be appreciated.
Thank You

Gwinnett County may be your best bet...it is the largest school system in the Metro Area, they pay pretty well, and they are always hiring and building schools. I know there are some Gwinnett schools based on numbers that have more than one counselor.

Counseling is also difficult because many counselor positions are taken by teachers who are thanking the Lord they finally made it out of the classroom and are holding on .

Just stretch your search beyond Cobb and Gwinnett and you might get lucky.

Default Best school area

My cousin moved to Forsyth County from NY for teaching job. She says it the best schools and highest paying. Top scoring county. Or North Fulton County

Unfortunately, you will probably need to focus on just finding a job. Just scan through many of the posts here and you will see that education jobs were not that easy to come by around here for this past school year with displaced teachers and budget cuts. Hopefully next year will be better.

Your husband will probably have an easier time as a math teacher than you will as a guidance counselor.

Gwinnett is the largest school district but with IE2, they have increased class sizes and it has pushed some teachers out. This doesn't effect you, but it may your husband. Guidance jobs are hard to come by. Also, as a teacher working in the district, the county is a beaurcratic nightmare! I'm happy teaching here, but it is frustrating at times when you are dealing with things at the county level.

Best of luck!

Cobb is the best district and the only one that did not do furlough days because the county made up the loss of state funding. It is your best bet by far.

True, they did not participate in furlough days, but, they had already given their employees a 2.5% pay cut, so, when it all equals out, even with our furlough days and those to come, it will still be the same amount cut.

However, Cobb, to me, still appears more organized and proactive.

And judging by the original post, this was posted 2 years ago, so any advice given now would be for newbies to the forum....

Some counties have zero positions available at the moment, whether it is certified or classified.
