Attention Disorder or Not, Pills to Help in School - in Cherokee County

Well I mean they're not drugging all kids. Just the ones who seem to have some sort of attention problem. That doesn't apply to all children.

Your last statement is the point of this thread. For the sake of control and convenience, these kids are 'diagnosed' and drugged.
Nature simply doesn't create a 'disorder' in that large a portion of the population.

Am I the only one concerned that a DOCTOR is prescribing meds to treat a disorder he doesn't believe exists? And wasn't there a report a while back about the over medication of low income kids and kids in foster care? I can attest to the latter myself. I've had kids in my caseload on three or more psychotropic meds, most of which had never been tested on kids. Bottom line is these kids had emotional problems. Little wonder because being in foster care alone is enough to make a kid crazy. What they needed was talktherapy, cognitive behavior therapy to work through their issues and fears. But that's expensive. No one is doing talk therapy at Medicaid rates, so you wind up with a bunch of kids being doped until they're almost comatose.

Yeah, he was regaling me with tales of his "epic" kickball game yesterday. Yeah, I'd have to take him out if there was no recess. They also have something called "brain breaks." they get up and move around a bit, and play a game or two. They're quiz games, but it really seems to help the kids with their focus.

I agree about this so-called disorder. There are kids that are less focused than others, but they can be taught without drugging the hell out of them. Kids need lots of physical activity. (I swear mine has cocker spaniel DNA.) When they don't get it, it manifests in negative behavior. I used to tell parents to get the kids off all this unpronounceable chemical food and let them play outside. That's my "prescription" for ADHD.
