Is anyplace in or near the city showing nice fall colors? I'm in Stone Mountain and there's too many evergreens around here. I know it's probably nice up in the mountains but I'm wondering if there's more color in the northern suburbs.

Thanks!

There isn't any more color in the northern suburbs than in the southern suburbs. If you want real color you'll have to drive to the mountains.

This year last I heard they're predicting extreme NE Georgia to have decent color on the last weekend in October to the first weekend in November. Atlanta should follow a week after that. This is usually the peak for the ORANGES though - some areas are already getting the yellows and reds, so it depends on what types of pics you want to take as to exactly when it's best (if that's your goal).

Anything other than Green would be cool. What I really need is a flight to Maine.

I'm sure the leaves in Maine have already fallen to the ground. They are past peak up there.

Nah...enjoy the things you have. The green is just fine with me for a little longer.

Losing leaves in mid October that don't show back up until mid May makes for a brown and dreary landscape most of the year. Late spring, summer, and early fall are beautiful, but New England is very brown and dreary when there's no snow and no leaves. At least Georgia has the pines and other evergreens during the winter.

Driving from Charlston to Atlanta in next few days. Can someone suggest a route that might have fall colors. We don't care if it takes a couple of days. Thanks

Well "In the next few days" the best color is still going to be in the upper elevations of the mountains. There's a hotline you can call to get updates or hit up the forest service website. If you don't mind going out of the way, I would suggest SH 75 (Unicoi Turnpike) to the north of Helen as well as SH 348 (Richard Russel Scenic Hwy) aqnd SH 180 that leads to Brasstown Bald.

Have fun!
