3 Rhodes Scholars is swell, but I'd rather have a large alumni base of people who are consistently winning in the job market and in life. Also, not a lot of recent names on that list. As I've said before, Morehouse is living of the legend of those who WERE great Morehouse Men. That mystique no longer exists.
Well I dont think you will see too many people who graduated in the last decade as yet.Mostly due to the fact that many are in grad school or just starting early in there careers. But there are many on that list who are worthy today in the public eye.How many 30-40 year old CEO's or Mayors do you know of?
I know many personally that are doing as well as my Tech friends or better.
gtcorndog, I've had dinner with Bud. I'll post my pro-UGA thread in a few days once this site will allow me to hypertext links. You take good old fashion hate to a whole new level. What do you do for a living if you don't mind me asking? Are you involved in higher education or are you just some nut who has some sort of vendetta against UGA?

Look at that. 19-24 average ACT and 50% of the freshman students coming in with a sub 3.0 GPA. Those 29% in-state students have no excuse. Georgia high schools are a joke.
Morehouse is going to get left behind because A. the school is not respected and B. The students aren't respected. More importantly, B. The facilities and selectivity are great and all, but what really matters is what type of students are attracted.
Well its your opinion that its not respected but i have seen personally how companies like Duetch Bank,Deloitte, and Goldman Sachs recruit hevily from this school.I have a family member that got a job at Deutch Bank before he even graduate. One of his best friends is working for Accenture.Another for IBM.Im not making this stuff up.
I see more people from Morehouse doing big things than the average things people are doing at schools like
UGA.
Im not sayin anything negative about UGA.Its a great school but not for every body.
Again, no source what so ever. Look, maybe all that worked out for your family and friends, but there is no PROOF that Morehouse sends out students of that caliber. They come in sub-par and they leave sub-par..oh I mean they leave as Morehouse Men. I think you're referring to the creme of the crop Morehouse student instead of the "average" UGA student. Also, it's a major by major comparison. I know that the pre-med/pre-dental students at UGA are way more successful in terms of getting in compared to all other Georgia schools. Business or finance would be a different animal, but I haven't seen any source for these claims of high caliber firms recruiting from Morehouse.
Morehouse is not a research university, so they receive no views from the academic community. Georgia State -which boasts a MASSIVE black population IS a research university and public at that. It's so much cheaper. You're also exposed to a more diverse community. Black students will not be surrounded by black people. This is actually one of the sources of the achievement gap we're trying so hard to break. I am wholly against going to schools that aren't diverse. I wonder how the country would react to making UGA a HWCU(historically white college and university)
I'd like to take a look at the major by major 6 month job placement rate and starting salary for all Morehouse students and put that against schools of comparable pay...and then to public schools with the same admission stats.
1. Blacks being around blacks don't make them stupid.
2.Who cares if UGA is a HWCU if they don't descriminate in admission?

Dont you know that ANY studtent of any color can go to an HBCU?Its not about race. HBCU serve a purpose much like all girls schools do
Look I get what you are saying.I went to an HBCU mainly because of family lineage.I transferred there.I also went in the military as did my father and his father did.I also joined a fraternity that my father and grandfather did also. How is my lineage no less important than those who have those ties going to UGA?
And do you think UGA is diverse? You do know that HBCU are not exclusively for blacks? Many are very diverse as there many that are not.You could go to diverse HBCU like Delaware State and be more diverse than UGA.
ou
3 years ago Morehouse had its first WHITE valedictorian. There was no lashback .The majority were congratulating him and he even stated he got nothing but positive.Last I heard he was working at Goldman Sachs.
As far as Morehouse College graduates making less goes with every government statistic FACT that women and blacks make less than there counterparts in gender and race for every dollar made. You cant use statistic without the caveat.
Again, your personal experiences are meaningless when the unbiased statistics suggest something very different.

Its called MOREHOUSE COLLEGE!!!Its not a University!!!!Of course there is no reasearch. Its like comparing Amherst to Ga Tech or MIT.
I listed those the top schools for recruiters as listed by the Wall Street Journal in previous post.

What is your point? Morehouse didn't make the top 25 and wasn't listed in the 'next 20.' Morehouse was included in a study and didn't perform favorably? What does that prove? Morehouse could have been last on that list for all we know. What do you think that this link proves because you did a really poor job of making a point.
I wonder how many schools on that list charge $35,000 per year and can only produce a 43% graduation rate?

Lose of accreditation has been in the rumor mill for years. I guess it was the hospital that nearly lost accrediation. Still, MSM's profile is junk. I know that first hand.
HBCUs were created when blacks weren't allowed to go to school with whites. That is not the case anymore. I'm not black, so I can't say. I am involved in higher education, and my opinion is that HBCUs do a disservice to the black community and students. I would much rather advocate diversity at Tech, GSU, Emory and UGA than focus on these sub-par institutions of higher education. With the exception of Spelman, I really don't think HBCUs are a good idea. I also feel like it's an inherently racist construct. Without turning this into a PWI vs HBCU argument, I feel like students who enter the workforce from Morehouse or Clarke would be more likely to work with other blacks instead of tapping the entier workforce.
Race is becoming troublesome. We live in a new era.
What do you know, another white man that thinks HBCU's no longer serve a purpose. They decide when we weren't good enough for their schools and now they decide when we no longer need the schools that we have lol. And the last paragraph is some of the dumbest nonsense on earth. Honestly here's a bit of advice for you, we don't care what you think and HBCU's aren't going anywhere.
