Commute time from Dunwoody/Sandy Springs to Kennesaw State or NGCSU (home, transferring to)

Hi All,

My girlfriend recently took a new job in the Sandy Springs area and I'm currently still in school. I thought about transferring to Kennesaw State or North Georgia College and State University but both schools have me worried about the commute to class. Mileage wise Kennesaw would be closer but from what I hear, dealing with 285 and 400 can be a nightmare. However I would be leaving the city when others are coming in and vice versa in the afternoon. Which of these two commute would be better or are they both a little unreasonable?

I don't mind driving so much as I'd want to be to class on time. For instance, would leaving at 7am for an 8:30 class give me plenty of time to get to either school or is traffic just too unpredictable to say?

On average, you should not need more than 1 hour. On a good day you can make it in less. On a bad day (rain tends to bring out major accidents), you could need that hour and half or even more. But this would be the exception rather than the norm.

Once you clear GA 400 in the morning, 285 is wide open. Same for 75 North to KSU. Coming home in the afternoon, traffic usually stacks up around GA 400 and Ashford Dunwoody. It shouldn't take you more than 30-40 minutes from Dunwoody/Sandy Springs to KSU.

The issue would be, if you have afternoon classes, you may not make it on time with the traffic on 285 and 75 North.

You didn't say where you lived. If it is in Sandy Springs, you might consider Georgia State U as you can take the MARTA train straight to GSU and students get a discount on the MARTA Pass.

What school would you transfer from? Are online classes a possibility? Is this undergrad or grad we're talking about? What is your financial situation? Note gas prices for these commutes.
