Do you like spending 2 hours in your car each way? That will be the commute. 20 hours a week in a car in traffic. Bottom line - it will be a nightmare.
With that budget, why not move to Henry County? McDonough has some great neighborhoods. |

Peachtree City also has some really nice neighborhoods, and they're building new construction so if you are planning on staying for a long time it would be a good way to make a house that's just right for you. Definitely DON'T buy in Norcross, you won't stay away from the crime even in the nicer neighborhoods because it's just outside your door. Plus, the commute is horrible. I knew someone doing it the opposite way and it was horrible and he would always say it's not so bad because the people on the other side of the highway were stuck more than he was. Bottom line, traffic through Atlanta is not good almost any time during the day and if you want to see your family and spend time in your nice new home then you want to stay near where you will work. If it's family members who live here that you want to see don't worry about being that far away... with the amount of traffic you will hit by living up in Norcross you would be too tired to see them during the week anyway.

Oh, and for schools check out GreatSchools.net and look in the zip code that you want or pull the schools off of MLS listings to check them out. They've got scores, demographics, parent comments and a lot more really useful info.

I agree with most posters, if you are going to work in Stockbridge, you definitely need to live at least in the southern suburbs. I would suggest Peachtree City or McDonough. Your drive from Norcross will be awful no matter which way you are going.

I agree with SaraSatin on the traffic (Norcross to Stockbridge is long drive). I don't agree with SaraSatin on the assessment of Norcross. West Norcross (Peachtree Cornor) is very nice and Simpson Elementary is one of top ten elementary schools in the Atlanta area and it is located just south of Johns Creeks. One of Gwinnett County commissioner lives in that area. It is also unlikely that that area suffered any more crime in the future since Gwinnett village area of Norcross has gone down for past ten years and actually go up a little in the past two years (after Gwinnett village cid formed).

You are crazy to do that commute! As the pp have said the south side is where you should be looking if you are working in Stockbridge.. Fayettevile or Henry county both have great areas... With your price range you would have a TON of options! check out Eagles Landing Country Club off of Eagles landing Parkway, you would be super close to work.
We used to live in Henry county, if schools are important you need to be careful tho were you end up b/c not all are good. Good luck! |
