Coming from NY, Im wondering what you like best about living in GA and what you found to be the most difficult adjustment. Im guessing the weather is a big plus. Curious to hear about things you found better or worse that you may not have thought about before the move. Thanks.

Here is a good thread for this:
http://www.city-data.com/forum/atlan...-has-your.html

In sum - the food is the biggest. I miss having a quality deli on every corner and having most things stay open all the time and real pizza.

Atlanta overall is not a bad place to live. The weather is better I suppose but it does get very hot here. The cost of living for housing is MUCH less but for day to day stuff it is not really much cheaper than it is in NYC.

If you do move here please bring your own water since we are running out.

I moved here 12 yrs ago from Ny but I am not from the City I am from Utica/Rome area. I am pretty adaptable and love to travel.
I moved here because of the weather( there's a shocker)

I don't find anything worse or better
I take it at face value and it is different. Not better or worse...just different.

If you are the type of person that doesn't do well with change.. it may not be the move for you.
BUT if you like to experience different cultures and a different lifestyle, then give it a shot.

I moved here this summer from NJ, about 25 miles from NYC. Honestly, I dont see what the big deal is regarding "changes". Here's what I've found:

- Housing and property taxes are MUCH less than central NJ
- Schools in the area we bought in area the same
- Food, clothes, cars, even gas, are mostly the same (food may be slightly higher in some cases)
- The people are friendlier, and will talk your ear off if you let them
- Slightly hotter in the summer for a longer pediod, but better falls and winters
- Traffic is similar to most areas of NJ and NY around the city- substitute 75 and 85 for 287, GSP, NJTP, etc
- Despite comments to the contrary, you can find good pizza, bagels, bread, etc.- you just don't find it on every corner. Some folks make it sound like the world will come to an end if they cant have Linzer tarts- that's called "lack of adaptability"

Lastly, the pace is definitely slower, especially when it comes to work. Whereas in NJ/NYC everything was "gotta have it now" and "work till you get it done", I've found that people set more realistic timelines up front for getting things done, and you therefore don't have to work like an idiot to get things done. People truly value time at home and with family much more down here.

Hope that helps!

Bob

I will have to say that I agree with this comment
Being from a very Italian family... it was difficult for me to find the things i wanted to eat or even the ingredients to make them myself

Just remember if all else fails Harry's farmers market in marietta will probably have it they turned out to be a lifesaver for me

and johnny's Pizza really has some good syracuse grinders their pizza isnt too bad either nice and thin slimy NY pizza

I love watching people eat it with a fork
they just don't get it.....

Oh yeah I miss freihofer chocolate chip cookies YUM

I'm not from NY or NJ, but would it hurt Atlanta to have a nice deli here and there?

I am planning on moving to Atlanta from NJ and I can tell you that it definitely gets hot in NJ and I stay indoors when the temperature goes above 90 (which it does). I think change is good and who cares if I miss having my Great Falls pizzeria or my favorite cookies but hey I guess that means I will have to cook more.

I'd be interested in this! The best deli I have found is way out in Doraville.

That bit of information about the "pace" is refreshing! I'm so looking forward to less hassle and fuss. <img>
