Finally somebody's talking some sense. A massive school system with 100k kids is unwiedy and makes no sense. This is the sane way to acieve localcocern. I believe it will happen, unfortunately, it won't be soon enough for my kids. Presumably this won't just apply to Dunwoody, though I'm sure some people will prefer to remain in the county system.

Oh, I'm sure. Probably exponential. I've heard City of Decatur taxes are very high, so you get what you pay for. I don't mind high taxes for a good school system with local control.

Part of the reason taxes are so high in NJ, where I grew up, is because every little town of 2,000 people has it's own school district. In order for Dunwoody to be able to do this, the state legislature would have to allow pretty much every town to do it, which would create tons of new districts, increase taxes in every one of those towns, and decimate the schools that are left out of the new districts.

I understand that Bob, and it's most unfortunate, and I 'm saying this without hyperbole, it is either do this or let Dekalb go the way of Clayton county. This entire county is going to be dead in ten years unless something drastic is done. Maybe they can put a size restriction on it, but as it stands now unscrupulous criminals are running Dekalb. Those people will continue to play racial politics to stay in office, and we have no control. It is beyond awful, but we cannot continue to have a school system run by people who spend most of their time playing racial politics.

That's a little melodramatic saying DeKalb County, 3rd largest county in the state will be dead in 10 years. Starting voting those criminals out and trying to change the system!

If this does happen, there will be many many more municipalities that are going to follow suit. I'm very interested in how this plays out. If it does come to fruition, I believe it will population patterns and more all throughout metro Atlanta.

They're going to hit a brick wall on this and fail.

People said the same thing about the new cities. Look at where we are now, just a few years later.

I never heard anyone say that about cities, and I was actively involved in cityhood discussions in Tucker over the last ten years.

This will fail because, for one thing, the unintended consequences are vast and easy to predict, and the other is that, by design, constitutions are extremely difficult to amend.
