Georgia State's Andrew Young policy school does very well in rankings. The school itself is ranked #23 with it's top program being Public Budgeting and Finance at #4

GSU's law school also ranks very well, being at the top of the state when it comes to value. It's bar exam pass rates are identical to UGA's

GSU seems to have a rumored perception of being a bad school not backed up by facts. It's not top tiered but people won't give it credit for having any academic value.

I'm disappointed that the BOR didn't see fit to merge SPSU with GSU as I think SPSU's programs, while not recognized in the rankings, would have given GSU a foundation to elevate their perception with programs in Engineering, Technology, and Architecture. Not to mention provide a lot more space for research.

Instead the BOR chose to bring KSU up a notch and eventually enervate GSU. You'd think they'd consider their Research Universities first to make sure they are all 1st tier.

I don't think elevating KSU is a bad thing. That merger also makes sense geographically.

Georgia State should focus most of it's growth at the Downtown campus. The Alpharetta building already serves as the suburban wing.

As far as engineering and architecture, it would be awkward at state because Tech is literally right there. GSU and GT have some great combined masters programs, it would be cool of they added some combined undergraduate programs as well.

I agree, but I think it will hurt GSU in the long run. The BOR should think of their Research Universities' needs first.

The Alpharetta campus is just 14 acres with classroom buildings. SPSU is 230 acres with classroom buildings, a library, laboratories, dorms, etc. A complete and functional campus to support programs rather than just additional classroom space. In terms of growth and expansion, KSU has taken a huge leap forward which could have been huge for GSU too. Downtown growth is difficult and expensive.

It's no different or awkward than it is now. A merger doesn't mean Engineering and Architecture will move downtown. I'm pretty sure KSU will keep Engineering and Architecture on the SPSU campus. Plus there are programs in technology too.

This is what KSU will be getting:

The School of Architecture and Construction Management
B.Arch. in Architecture
M.S. in Architecture
B.S. in Construction Management
M.S. in Construction Management

The School of Computing and Software Engineering
B.S. in Computer Game Design and Development

B.A.S. in Manufacturing Operations
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology
M.S. in Quality Assurance

B.A. in English and Professional Communication
M.S. in Information Design and Communication

M.S. in Systems Engineering

Not much overlap with KSU or GSU programs except in Arts & Sciences, but that's what mergers are about.

Good luck to 'em. But it would require some heavy political pressure to stop it.

Well, looks like it is significant.

If it "pans out" ought be worthy of a Nobel.
